Decisive Battles?

Post by Redpossum »

Does anybody here play any of SSI's "Decisive Battles" games? I recently bought a copy of Korsun Pocket through Matrix, and I am having some real problems...

Are you having problems with interface, concepts and all?

Battles In Normandy (the next in the series, I think) has a downloadable demo and a good tutorial comes with it, a comprehensive .pdf explaining it all about everything...except your own way to victory. Have a try...Korsun pocket is older so maybe new features are introduced in BiN, but it'll help you a lot.

Good luck.

Hey, Duncan.

Thanks for the reply.

Well, KP has a nice enough tutorial as well, and I hammered through that. Then I tried the introductory scenario, and got my ass handed to me by the AI :)

Part of the problem is that I can't find any "live" forums. The Matrix Games forum for KP has had no posts since August 2005. I went to SSI, and they seem to have absorbed the old Run 5 forums, but those appear to be dead as well. I registered a week ago, and my account still hasn't been validated, so I can't even post to ask a question there :P

Apparently, the old Run 5 site had a whole set of advanced tutorials, but they got moved when SSI absorbed the site, and I cannot find the new location; perhaps they're offline.

Again, it seems like the game is dead, and nobody cares :(

I was sort of hoping to get myself geared up to play WW2 games again, as that is an area I have neglected for a long time.

HI Possum

Why don't you try to post your queries in the forum at http://www.wargamer.com? I'm sure you'll find there many KP's players.
Saludos

Hey, miki, there's a thought, thanks :)

It's a funny situation. With Panzer General, I just had an intuitive feel for what to do. I knew where to use my armor, my infantry, my artillery, how to integrate the air, etc.

With KP, I just stare blankly at the map and think, "Uhhhh, duh, what do I do?".

I even went do far as to re-install Panzer General and play it some, just to see if I'd lost my touch. No, I can still romp and stomp at PG. And it's still a hella fun game :)

Of course, there are some significant differences between the games.

Panzer General is heavily abstracted in the overall sense, whereas Korsun Pocket is much more detailed and "realistic" in the ground game. But in the air war, PG is more detailed, and KP is too damn abstracted for my taste.
