Ally General inflence on Non Allied BG moves

Post by genghiskhan »

Had a situation which confused us recently: An undrilled BG of knights had an Allied general (not in line of command of said knights) attached, They made a 'difficult' advance but as general was attached, this was deemed not a 'difficult' move - RAW say the BG just needs a general to make the move without a CMT- does not say, anywhere I can find, that it has to be a general in line of command? In all other areas of the rules, I can see that an Allied general xannot affect morale, flank marching, re rolls etc unless in line of command for that BG.

Am I blind to something here/not reading this right or was this an oversight or is it correct as is?

Would appreciate clarification?

Looking through the rule book I have to agree, there is no specific restriction on allies helping with difficult moves except that the unit will not get the +1 for being in line of command since allied generals are never in line of command for any troops except those of his own contingent.

I think we need an author to rule on this, the intention may have been that allies can only influence their own troops but as it is written they may be able to help flog other nations boys into making those moves.

I think the text on page 29: "Commanders can only affect battle groups for which they are in line of command" is pretty clear. It does not say "...can only supply modifiers...". I think allowing a BG to make a difficult move without taking a CMT is "affecting" the BG and should not be allowed by a general who is not in line of command.

They definately won't get any mods from him for trying to make a difficlult move, and yes I guess you are right he should not be able to influence or help any troops who are not part of his allied contingent, guess there are not a lot of interpreters in ancient armies to tell you what all that shouting and gibberish arm waving is all about.
