Warfighting Progress

Post by lordhoff »

Since the system used in Chariots is unique (not used in later variants) to improve unit technologies, I'm curious as to how it is done. As time goes on, one is told of the changes. Are these changes random, a turn-influenced die roll, influenced by ethnic group, influenced by current builds (ie, does the clock start after, say, a blacksmith is built for the next step up?), etc? It makes little difference, I suppose. I guess it might influence me to build certain buildings faster or something. As it is (in the Mesopotamian theater) the game has generally been finished with the AI still building mainly levees and the occasional advanced cart and me with Sheridans, militia (occasionally one step higher) spearmen, and archers. I have managed the next swordsmen step and the light and heavy chariots but have not been able to build the advanced carts (with the proper ethnic group) or more advanced infantry. I'm thinking the scenarios might just be too short for these advances (which may be tied to specific dates) until I get to the grand campaign.

PS -directing me to a past thread works for me - couldn't think of any good key words to search.

There is an events.txt file in each campaign folder which determines teh dfate on which techs arive and their effects. It's pretty in depth but all in text format so can be modded if you are brave enough.

I don't recall that it was that hard. My lazy way of modding is to just copy the whole game folder with a diferent name. then make a short cut to the .exe for that folder. That way if I mess somthing up I can just delete the whole folder and start again.

It appears that there's a list, but the speed at which it progresses has a random element. It's definitely NOT the same from one game to the next, but the order is.
