Philiphaugh Covenanters

Post by marshalney2000 »

Nik, herewith suggested amendments:
The Covenanter army in 1645 at the Battle of Philiphaugh in Scotland was very untypical of the other engagements involving this list. The army was in fact a swift moving cavalry strike force detached from the main army in England. This was designed to bring Montrose's Royalists to battle and crush him. In order to simulate this battle the following amendments are made to the core list:
1 All cavalry minimums and maximums are tripled and all quality ratings are average
2. All dragoons minimums and maximums are tripled
3 All infantry minimums and maximums are removed and only one infantry regiment of average quality can be selected.
4 No highlanders can be selected.
5 No artillery can be selected.

Nik, I hope this helps but as usual happy to discuss.
By the way where do we stand on having sme average cavalry in the standard covenanting list?

Probably OK as a complete oddity Special Campaign. No idea why anyone would want to field such a didgy army though, but that isn't a reason to exclude it

To be added when I next update the Covenanters - not forgotten.

Certainly a one off army although due to the fact that Montrose's recon was rubbish as usual and also the fact that the Royalists were outnumbered by a big margin it worked. Mc Colla had most of the Irish away on a recruitment drive and the highlanders and a lot of even the pike and shot were also away. I think the Covenanters created such a rapid redeployment force from England as after the previous Royalist victory the whole of Scotland was open to Montrose and they had to do something quickly.
