Charging LF already in melee

Post by marioslaz »

In yesterday game we found a situation where we had some problems. A BG of LF was in melee on its front against LH. LF had an overlap. A BG of Cavalry charged the LF on overlap. We were not sure about LF reaction. Reading the rules LF should evade (or take a CMT to stay) but since they were already in melee this didn't seem OK, so we decided LF stay to fight without CMT. Are we wrong? And if we were right, where is this covered by rules?

P64 col 2 bullet 1 is considered to address this, along with bullet 2 and p60 fourth bullet regarding receiving charges. FAQ 4(v) also specifically confirms that troops in close combat other than only as overlap can't evade from enemy charges.

As long as the LF was not only acting as an overlap, if they are engaged in melee they have to stand and take it. Only reason to test them would be if they were fragged.

Thanks to both. It seems that yesterday, due to late hour, we didn't read the full paragraph of conditions by which a BG can evade.
