Later Hebrew

Hi There
Have decided to have a new army for next year comps and its going to be Later Hebrew.

I have got the figures, but can't find anything about the colours, I was thinking mainly white for the infantry something a bit brighter for the Choriot crews but am at a loss.

Any help with colours most welcome or if you've got a Hebrew army what colours did you use.

Scant help here, but religious law prohibited the mixture of wool and linen threads, so solid natural colors of these fabrics would be in order. I think you are on the right track with white - and probably the whole range of offwhites - cream, buff, gray, etc. Scarlet and blue are mentioned several times as colors used within the Tabernacle, and as the preferred colors for surrounding military superpowers - Assyrians, etc. Scarlet and blue seem to indicate a real effort at spectacle.

Purple is mentioned, but as a trade item, or IIRC with reference to Phoenician royalty. It has been a while since I read the historical books of the Old Testament.

One thing to bear in mind is that armies with a lot of neutrals for color options, can be bumped up tremendously with extremes of value between light and dark. This can give an army a lot of visual punch even with a very narrow pallette. Think Knights Hospitallers, or Teutonic Knights as examples of this.

Save the scarlet and blue for best troops and command cadre, IMO.

Thanks for that white and off white for the Hebrew troops I'm taking a unit of Philistine would their clothing be the same I did read IIRC about blue being a colour of choice for them I maybe wrong mind.

The slight climate difference from Israel to Egypt meant almost nothing survived as artifacts. Very disappointing.

Speaking of Egypt, perhaps some tombs reliefs and frescoes might help?

Cool. are you going to do something incorporating the ark of the covenant? Perhaps held by four bearers as a CinC rather as part of the baggage? I was going to use one in my assyrian baggage as plunder

Not thought about using the covenant as a C in C it would be appropriate. I was trying to find some stone pillers to scale for the camp.
