Samurai in NY

For anyone in or passing through NYC in teh next couple of months this sounds like a don't miss exhibition

Just as a note, even if you don't catch the Samurai special exhibit, the MMA is definitely worth a visit to see their permanent arms and armor collection. It's probably the biggest collection on public display in the US. The MMA also has excellent Classical and Egyptian collections.

Went to see this in NYC this weekend, is a truly amazing exhibit. The collection of Japanese swords is probably something you would never get a chance to see again anywhere outside of Japan.

The number of items they list as "very few examples of this exist" (e.g. a 13th Century Naginate blade and four foot long two handed sword) and "this is the best sword of this type every made" is really amazing. The catalog is also very nice and I am sure you can get it over the internet if you are interested in Samurai armies.

No,the Cleveland Museum of Art is just as big.They had an excellent exhibit of Imperial Austrian armor from the Graz Armories last year.

The Graz collection is reputed the best in Europe for items up to 1600s.
