odd charge situation

Post by deadtorius »

had a weird charge today in a game that I was not sure was right but we let it go through anyway.

My slingers helped to break a unit of light horse and pursued them. My pursuit led me right beside an enemy unit of MF bows. the back end of my sling unit was about 3 bases past the front of the enemy bow unit and we were facing opposite directions and were side by side.
My opponent declared a charge on my slings, even though I was not actually in front of him and he had to wheel to get me into his front arc.
I didn't think you could charge if the target was not in our front arc, but as I said we let it go ahead anyway and it became a flank charge.
So should it have been allowed in the first place?

I was of the opinion that it could not be done.

I don't have my rules handly, but from your description I don't think so.

You can't do more than a 90 degree wheel in a charge correct?

There is also something about not being able to wheel within 1" of the enemy.

As I said, without my rules on hand or a bit of a diagram it's kinda difficult to be sure.

If you were more than 3 base depth past his front how far is his outer base moving in this wheel? He has to have been in column and rolled up on the VMD to even try to get close.

Plus of course as mentioned the 90deg. max wheel.

The wheel required was only a couple degrees, just enough to move the BG forward into the flank. We were literally side by side facing opposite directions. So wheeling just a bit was enough for front corner of my BG to hit side edge of Dead.'s BG. But the 1MU rule about wheeling would have applied. The BG still could have charged but since it was within 1MU it would not have qualified as a flank charge, just a charge. :?
