Indianapolis Indiana, needs teachers of FoG....

Post by msuspartan »

We have many interested players and ex-Dbx people who are trying to set up a FoG games day in November for area people to help in teaching rules and game mechanics to many FoG noobies. Some of us have armies many do not. We are thinking of a 500(?) point army list for ease of play. Please contact me by email at msuspartandon@yahoo.com please. The store is on the west side of Indy at Games to Die For. We also have a forum www.games2d4.com and check out the Historical thread and the other games thread. I look forward to your emails.

Thank you for any help.

Cheers, Don

Hi Don,

Not sure if I've met you or not. I used to play FoW at G2D4 with McMann an Jerry.

I would recommend using the starter armies out of the army books as a start. 500 points is such an odd number. Also, using 3x5 tables will allow the game mechanics to be learned without all the fuss of waiting to reach each others lines.

ATC is coming up in Sept, and their is going to be a FoG tournament run by some friends. I suggest that as an alternative.

I just might run a tournament come November on the North-West side of Cincy, about 2 hours from G2D4. I'll get the specifics out later. Can't make your event at this time, but I wish you guys success with it.

I play FoW with Jerry and Mikey all the time. Was at the Louisville Tourney with Mike and Scott. ATC is a no go for me but we are looking at some ideas for a time to get an intro to FoG. Even McMann is interested. We are trying for a date when some people around will be available. We are trying to set up a 1000 point FoW tourney in December, more later. If you have a free weekend open let me know so maybe we could set up that weekend. Thanks for replying.

Cheers, Don

Go Green! Go White!

Ahem.

I live in Michigan and sometimes make it down to Cincy for Madcam's events. In November, though, I will be at Fall In! in Gettysburg (running the FoG events). Come play there?

There is also usually a FoG event at Little Wars in Chicago in the spring time.

My wife is a Hoosier, she believes in basketball & then God, or Bobby Knight as he is known. That comment was for her benefit, explains the bruised shins after she read it. :D

Scrumpy,
I understand your problem. But at least the Hoosiers got a former Michigan State coach with ethics. Tom Crean, though the Indiana coach, is a man of integrity, honour and class. He has done much to restore IU's honour. I applaud his hiring. (wear shin guards next time, they help! oh and a cup in case she misses your shins  ) One of the things I like about Tom Izzo is his class and the coaches under him show the same integrity. I never hear disappointing news from a coach or former coach of Coach Izzo's. Nice to know class still is there in sports. As long as Indiana loses to MSU I am happy other than that they can win as many games as possible. That is why I love Flames of War and Field of Glory so much. Classy people!!!!

P.S. Don't tell your wife about MSU needing to beat IU, I don't want her to smack my shins either!!

We are thinking of having a FoG teaching day for complete 'noobs on 14 Nov and on 21 Nov Games to Die For in Avon (a couple of miles west of 465 loop) Indiana. Is there anyone available to show up and help out. If you are interested please respond here. Thanks for any responses. Will have more info later.

I would be interested, but will be running the events at Fall In! in the same time frame, which will use up my travel allotment.

There's a group of noobs in South Bend looking for some mentoring as well. We've played a few games through with proxy armies and have the gist of the rules down, but we really need someone familiar with the rules to go over a few points with us (mainly POA's).

Indianapolis is a bit of a drive for us, is there anyone lurking on the boards that lives a little closer? Will anyone be at PentaCon in Ft. Wayne (first weekend of November)?

I've never heard of Pentacon but I only live about 2 hours from Fort Wayne. Is Pentacon large/small? Does it have a lot of historicals?

What is the FoG scene like in Indiana ? The Memsahib is always dropping hints about moving back to Bedford In. when she gets homesick for the green bean casserole & big ten basketball.

Scumpy,

It use to have a thriving DBx community and it has slowly been coming around to FoG.

Namely the newer (to me at least) names here posting shows you it has much potential.

I'm really going to try to make it to Indy on the 14th or the 21st and drag a few buddies to assist out on the teaching.

I should know my schedule here within the next week or so....

Madcam.

The Belt in Beltway has been stretched recently, Dan in Az & Marc in Mi. I was wondering which of the other 3 members will be dropped to make way for Dan's daughter in a year or two ?

The offspring will form Beltway 2. Still better than the Ohio players. 8)

Too bad your game does not correspond with the rules book.
