Overlappers

Post by tyronec »

Why does keil 4 get overlappers against keil 18 but keil 18 doesn't ?

Also, why doesn't keil 4 get overlappers against keil 16 ?

This may all be WAD, am just not sure what the rules are for overlappers.

If I remember correctly overlappers bonus is only for the larger unit so without other information I suppose that keil 4 is larger than keil 18 but smaller than keil 16

The only mention I can find about overlappers is in the patch notes, and it doesn't specify the bonus and from the wording would only apply to mixed spear/heavy weapon units but not pikes. Maybe there is more details somewhere else ?

o Mixed units of Offensive Spearmen and Heavy Weapon are treated as 100% Offensive Spearmen for their own POA, but partially cancel the first 50 POA of enemy armour advantage in proportion to the % of Heavy Weapon, and large units get Overlappers bonus in Melee against smaller enemy units.

Having watched more combats in the game this is the one I have seen where a keil gets overlappers bonus, so perhaps it is an anomoly.

From the current version of the manual, which can be downloded from the STEAM product page:
13.2.8. Overlappers
Large units that include a proportion of men with Heavy
Weapon get an Overlappers bonus in Melee against smaller
enemy units.
Smaller is based on the size at the start of the battle, and only applies if the

Code: Select all

UnitSize
variable of the larger unit is at least 150 more than the smaller.

When units are created their size is rndomly adjusted between 95% and 105% of the base value.

Since the base

Code: Select all

UnitSize
of keils is 1500 this effect would only occur if the overlapping unit rolled 105 and the overlapped keil rolled 95 at the start of the battle.

So you won't see it very often!
