Division B
markleslie Thracian (Triballi) 350 BC-46 AD defeats alexhstandish Pergamene 190-129 BC 40-10.
The Pergamenes elected to lead with their mediums on both flanks with the centre trailing, the Thracian flanks moved to embrace them.

Their flanks put to the test proved very insufficent not allowing their strong centre the time they needed to grind down the tribesmen.

Good luck in your coming trials!

Division B
markleslie Pergamene 190-129 BC defeats alexhstandish Thracian (Triballi) 350 BC-46 AD 43-7.
The foxy Thracian centre turns their back on the advancing Peregamenes and leaves it to the lights to do the fighting.

The lines are locked, amazingly, the Pergamenes find themselves king of the hill with the Barbarians looking up waiting for the avalanche.

There's a special place in Hell for armies with 20 plus lights.
Salute!

Rosedelio (Axumite) defeats Nijis (Nobatae) 51-19
With the support of massed archers on a steep hill, the Axumites were able to shoot then charge down the Nobatae infantry before the cav flanked too many.
Rosedelio (Nobatae) defeats Nijis (Axumite) 50-19
The swarm of Nobatae light archers harrassed the Axumites as they approached the Nobatae infantry. Thanks to the enclosures, the Nobatae were able to hold on long enough for the flanking cav to arrive.

My opponent taught me the proper use of elephants in a cavalry battle in the mirror battle, which I lost badly (not yet posted).

Division B
Jtrillodmp Hunnics (Sabir) 463-558 AD defeats Alexhstandish Byzantine 551-578 AD 57-29.
The Huns opted for a mixed army of cavalry and foot warriors, whilst the Byzantine army consisted of almost 90 per cent cavalry with many veteran units. The barbarians’ strategy paid off because the ferocity of their horsemen and lancers enabled them to defeat the enemy cavalry with several successful flanking manoeuvres after wearing them down with their arrows, whilst the foot soldiers held off the rest of the Byzantine army. Special mention must be made of the Byzantine light cavalry and infantry units for their constant and effective harassment.

The Vandal's Superior quality allowed them ot overwhelm the Visigothic left flank despite the best efforts of the Visigoths but Vandal left flank equally collapsed facing Visigothic cavalry supported by light foot archers who then moved to the centre where fighting was ongoing and were able to do enough to had victory to the Visigoths.

Division C
Solemnace's Bretons 580CE-931CE defeats Maeglyr's Norman 923CE-1040CE 48-22
The prearranged tourney to conclude several minor land disputes before a more formal alliance to oppose the efforts of the French Nobles to assert authority over both Britanny and Normandy began near a large stream. The Normans easily cross it in the centre and initially did well against the Breton left who counter crossed the stream to engage them. The Breton right however was quickly able to gain the upperhand in fierce hand to hand fighting before a chain rout suddenly and quite unexpectedly collapsed a swath of the Norman left and centre resulting in an unexpectedly swift Breton victory. The 'wounded' and 'dead' were quick to pick themselves off the ground to congratulatethe victors and ensure the day ended with no hard feeling with the Normans leaving with fresh respect for Breton fighting spirit and ability.

alexhstandish (Huns) defeated Jtrillotopmp (Byzantine) 55;63
The battle started well for the Huns with light horse succesfully beating off the opposite LH and then shooting up cavalry behind, aided by their horse archers moving up to assist. At this stage the Huns led by approx 20 points and they thoughht victory was in sight. However, the Byzantines refused to yield and managed to take a number of skirmishing troops in the rear with inevitable results.
The Huns were not helped when one of their lancer units and a horse archer unit chose to chase routers from one side of the battlefield to the other. They were sorely needed in what had become a grinding fight.
In what was a very close batttle the Huns managed to cross the line first.
thanks for a good game Jtrillotopmp.

DocVanNostrand (Hunnic) defeats ThatUglyGuy (Byzantine) 63-45
Was a wild one where the Byzantines initially scattered the Hunnic left and looked headed for an easy rout. Luckily for me, better results on the opposite flank coupled with a few rallies brought the battle back into reach. By the end, it was a chaotic scene with no discernable lines intact on either side. gg to my opponent - this could have easily gone the other way

Kroche (Carthaginian) defeated Nijis (Syracuse) 47 - 21
Map narrowed by a body of water ensured a clash of the lines - Carthaginian left of medium foot clashed vs a large cavalry force and managed to halt any major break through. Carthaginian chariots helped break through the Syracusan centre and the right wing clash of medium and heavy foot on both sides broke the deadlock as Carthage had all the luck in defeating the opposing force.
Kroche (Syracuse) defeated Nijis (Carthaginian) 53-28
Syracuse forces did well all across the line and in this match their warbands performed a lot better than in the mirror. Carthaginian chariots were becoming a huge threat as they were fighting through the Syracusan right flank, but could not fully break it in time.
Well played to Nijis in two close fought battles.

ThatUglyGuy (Roman 105-25 BC) beat SirMichael (Lusitanian) 60-47
An open plain made for most of the battlefield but dominated by a singular hill in front of the Roman left.
Outnumbered 2-3 but with great (over)confidence in their superiority, the Roman legion surged forward onto the hill and flatland below, doing great damage in the initial contact.
That success, however, left the Roman line ill-organized for what was to come.
The first actions left gaps in the line that the Spanish were all too eager to exploit.
Around the Roman right came a host of horsemen. Initially blocked but too numerous to stop, they went on to harry the rear of the line.
At the Roman left, the wider Lusitanian line now had circled the hill and laid siege to it.
All along the battlefield, the cohorts were now fighting for dear life, with any one unsupported quickly finding themselves surrounded and cut down.
It was on the hill however that some semblance of order was restored and, even under a constant barrage of slingshot and javelin, the enemy was steadily ground down.
A victory, but a grim one, as by the end of the day a full third of the Roman host was lost.
Gg!
