Re: Vae Victis - Romans vs. Etruscans: Ongoing
Battle of Voisinii
The Etruscan and Romans were on very hilly ground and both sides really did not want to commit to combat as attacking was much more dangerous than defending. On Turn 19 the Etruscan consul threw caution to the wind after chasing some roman light troops into the forest to the left. Gambling they attacked against the weaker roman allies in the roman center having some early success.
on turn 24 roman turn (last) the Etruscan had one of those rare but very bad cascade routs were one cohort fails and 4 other cohorts in the line routed even though some were only in disrupted condition. A draw still was result but nightfall saved the Etruscan consul from having to fall on his sword. Romans won skirmish 44-26
It is always a pleasure to fight Chris Townsend, and we both commented on how a campaign changes how you fight a battle. Salute to Kronenblatt as this is a pretty cool multiplayer campaign game.
For the retreat rolls Etruscans rolled a 10 the Romans a 4 Romans retreated (effect unknown Chis T can report), but with the 44 loss the Etruscan army is weakened. but controlling the field.
The Etruscan senate is debating their next move and will inform the group shortly.

The Romans retreated in good order to Voisinii. The Etruscans need to decide whether or not to advance before beginning their operations.

Etruscan Army I moves:
- N: 6, +1 for moving along Road = 7 > 2 (Farmlands) => Allow move and another attempt for that Army.
- N: 5, +1 for moving along Road = 6 > 4 (Hills) => Allow move and another attempt for that Army.
- Stays.

Re: Vae Victis - Romans vs. Etruscans: Ongoing
Year 2 Roman 2md Operation: All armies in supply.
Roman I Army moves from Tarquinii (sorry I typed NE in the roll diced when I meant NW)
#1 NW: 7, + 2 for moving along Road and Road between two Friendly cities = 9 > 2 (Farmlands) => Allow move and another attempt for that Army.
#2 NW: 3, + 2 for moving along Road and Road between two Friendly cities = 5 > 2 (Farmlands) => Allow move and another attempt for that Army.
#3 NW (into Cosae): unmodified 1 = No move and end Operation for Roman I. The Consul organizes a hunt and twists his ankle. We stay South from Cosae.

Roman II attempts to move NW along road towards Clusium. DR 2+1=3 means moves and stops [(1-2)x threshold of 2 for hills]. Etruscan II may now decide to attack (gaining the privilege of the DR for terrain and moving first).

Battle at the Crossroads:
Etruscan army is attacker. Gallic army is defender. Terrain is Hilly. 1550 pts armies.
Will Etruscan side use Samnite allies?

Chris, as the Defender, you roll the dice for the map terrain.kronenblatt wrote: Thu Jul 23, 2026 7:20 amYes, Etruscan Army II intercepts.Chris Townsend wrote: Fri Jul 17, 2026 1:28 pm Roman II attempts to move NW along road towards Clusium. Then attacker-etruscan chose ally then defender-roman chose ally.
Then we fight.

The Romans rolled "4" - the defenders terrain - Mediterranean Hilly. Perhaps the Roman general has chosen hill terrain that has fewer patches of rough this time. Will the Samnites again join the party?

Well, the Gauls refused to go home, so I thought it wiser to include them in the battle then to leave them behind looking for fun in Voisinii!
