Solemnace Egyptian 570BCE-525BCE defeats ggarynorman Seleucid 166-125BC with Jewish allies 163-111 BC 47-6

Egyptian heavy chariots in the centre broke up Pike formations and Romanised Infantry as they tried to charge infliciting heavy losses and breaking up several of them with pressrue from arrows and charges. On the Egyptian left several Selucid pikes supported by a variety of infantry types tried to engage Egyptian Armored hoplites and managed to break at least one unit before they were outmanuevered and driven from the field. On the left Egyptian light cavalry support by bowmen and Egyptian Spearmen were able to outmaneuver Seleucid Cataphracts to break two of them. The combination of these losses on all three front despite localised successes drove the Seleucid army from the field.

Hannibal and Pyrrhus met in Italy to determine who was the greatest military commander of all time (Alexander was on sick leave). The Romans put at disposal one of their most beautiful latifundia for the battle.

After a grueling march, the shock took place. The phalanges showed their superiority over the African spearmen, however experienced. The Samnite allies allowed several flank attacks and controlled the right flank.

Our left flank, however, was cut to pieces by skillful maneuvers. The alpine elephants seem more fierce than their epirots counterparts. The phalanges however had time to turn around to keep this threat in check.

49-15

We faced the very elite of the Romans army, supported by a dense bloc of allies, iberians, thracians and some others gangs. The phalanges approached the stream and found the water too cold. The Romans splashed little water on theirs neck to sweep away some javeliners, but did not go any further. So, staring contest. Only one legionary formation dared to cross and was confronted by an angry elephant. There were no other volunteers. Tips from veterans.

Meanwhile, on the left side, our good Samnites engaged the Allied bloc in muddy ground and managed to defeat it, thanks to the elite soldiers. On the right side, our large cavalry formation take its time but take the ground.

All of this was enough to convince the Roman veterans to remain veterans.

Egyptian Archers well placed on a hill devestate the Gallic left flank with hails of arrows breaking up cavalry and leaving the survivors vulernable to the advance of Egyptian Spearmen. Meanwhile Heavy chariots held in place the Gallic centre leaving them unable to support either flank. On the Egyptian Left armoured hoplites advance against the Gallic infantry and their Spanish allies supported by Egyptian cavalry and managed to inflict enough damage to force the Gauls and their Spanish allies from the field.

Division C

Chris Townsend Spanish (Sentorius) 80 - 70 BC and Rob123 Gallic 100-50BC with Spanish (Iberian) met on flat terrain with just enough rough to give the Spanish (hereafter referred to as Lusitanians) hope. The clash of armies led essantially to a draw on the Lusitanian right, a complete disastr in their centre, and a resounding victory on their left - except the far left, where the mercenary Nementos, son of Caturix and his superior warband (aided by a couple of returning cavalry) demonstrated that he was worthy of song.

In the end, the Lusitanians scored 68 to the Galic 55, but it was a hollow victory as Sentorius will never return to Rome, having lost all of his Roman legions.

The two armies faced each other on a flat plain with rough ground inbetween them. The Egyptians initially hoped the Samnites and Gauls would come to them but once it became clear they wouldn't settled on a slow advance across the rough ground while archers and bow chariots cleared the infantry defending the rough. Once across a fierce counterattack drove in the Egyptian right misaligned from the rest of the army by the difficulty of cross the rough ground. While the Egyptian left tried to move into position to respond the situation seemed to be getting worse and worse before the unexpected death of a Gallic general leading a superior warband in what was supposed to be an easy attack on an Egyptian Armored Hoplite formation broke up the cohesion of the entire Allied army's left flank giving the Egyptians time to inflict enough damage to break the Samnite and Gallic armies.

Division C

Chris Townsend Spanish (Sentorius) 80 - 70 BC defeats Solemnace Egyptian 570BCE-525BCE 69-51

On a field the featured hills between the two sides, the Egyptian spear well supported by massed archers got to the hill on the Spanish (aka Lusitanian) left first, and despite initial routs in the face of Lusitania charges, rallied to eliminate the Lusitanian warbands and Caetrati charged with holding that flank.
The hill on the opposite flank was the most modest, and had little impact on a running fight between noble cavalry and armoured hoplites (supported by early cavalry) that had not been resolved by battle end.
The decisive central hill was small, but with difficult sides that the Lusitanian skirmishers, supported by some Caetrati, where able to occupy before the opposing massed archers. The skirmishers missile fire was a key factor in first eliminating the archers, and then supporting the legions against the Egyptian heavy chariots, and, finally, their turn to confront the Egyptian spear. The Lusitanian light cavalry should also be given credit for constantly annoying the chariots.

A good game that could have gone either way.

Chris Townsend Spanish (Sentorius) 80 - 70 BC defeats SawyerK Samnite 355-272 BC with Gallic 46 to 15

The Spanish (Lusitanians) had the advantage of a 200 ft hill in front of their left side lake, and a small hill to the centre of some woods on their right. The Lusitanians deployed Caetrati on the two flanks, the warbands and Romans in the centre (all screened by skirmishers) and their light and medium cavalry in front of their left flank, with a mission to outflank the Samnites. The Samnites countered with similar forces opposite the woods, their good quality infantry in the centre, and Samnite foot on their right, which they quickly reinforced with their cavalry initially held in reserve. The cavalry/medium infantry battle for the hill was probably a draw, with the Samnites inflicting more casualties, but a few Lusitanian horse making it around the flank to harass the front line infantry. The Lusitanian skirmishers outnumbered their Samnite equivalent by 50%, so the Samnite line had to either absorb the fire or charge. Choosing the latter, they were eventually warn down by the beneficial effects of the hill, so when the Samnite left flank moved to support (and deal with the stray Lusitanian cavalry, the Caetrati emerged from the woods with superior numbers, quickly rolling up the flank to provide the margin of victory.

Good game.

Since both scores are over 60, this would count as a draw.

Epirotes opted for deep formations to maintain a flexibility of action in front of the coming and going of the phalanges. A large cavalry formation will be responsible for taking the wide plateau on our left and attempting to attack the enemy’s flank and rear. They will not succeed, blocked by the sacrifice of the brave enemy cavalry.

Our right wing, composed of fierce Samnites, supported by light elements and a few mounted greeks, took the upper hand against the thureophoroi, not equipped to receive such an impact on open ground. The Samnites were relieved to see that the terrifying enemy elephants were redirecting themselves towards the center of the battle.

It’s at the center where everything was played.
The Macedonian general confronted us with a dense block of phalanges, including veterans of the wars of conquest, hoping to pierce and quickly overwhelm our lines. Pyrrhos held fast, sarisses against sarisses, and the two ends of our infantry formation enveloped the block. Surrounded and no longer able to maneuver to face the new threats, the Macedonians were defeated, in a cascade of demoralization.

Solemnace Egyptian 570BCE-525BCE defeats rockmanbob123 Roman 105-25BC 65-39

The Roman deployed on a series of hills to face the advance of the Egyptians. They'd brought many elite and well equipped infantry units to face the Egyptian army. They swiftly found themselves in trouble since they realized they had not brought the correct units to face heavy Chariots. A single unit of Elephants was the only serious counter and after routing a single heavy chariots they found themselves surrounded and cut to pieces by armored hoplites. The same hoplites proved very sturdy in resisting the attacks of the Roman legionaries who struggled to overcome them. The Roman Elite infantry did succeed in breaking up the left wing of the Egyptian infantry but this victory was of little comfort as Heavy chariots ran rampant through the Roman centre allowing the Hoplites and spearmen following behind them to isolate other units and break them as the Roman sought flight to survive the battle.

Solemnace Egyptian 570BCE-525BCE defeats Indibil Achaemenid Persian 460-420 BC 61-29

The Persians deployed for battle with their cavalry mostly on the left but swiftly decided they want to move their cavalry to the right flank. The Egyptians saw this maneuver and decided to use the Persian infantry their cavalry was moving in front of to pin them in place and destroy them unleashing a rapid charge by the Egyptian heavy chariots in an effort to break through while the Persian archers were limited in their firing options by their own cavalry. While the did eventually result in the destruction of most of the Persian cavalry it also resulted in the loss of most of the Egyptian heavy chariots in the sprawling melee and it's aftermath. But the Egyptian plan ultimately worked and once through the cavalry they were able to get stuck into the Persian archers behind them. While the Persian immortals put up a good fight these untis were expensive and rare and too few to hold up the entire line of Egyptian Armored hoplites whom had been deployed behind the Heavy chariots and now took this opportunity to move forward to attack the Persian infantry. Eventually the pressure told and enough Persian infantry routed to send the entire Persian army into flight.

Div A

Karvon Sarmation 350 BC w Skythian defeated Morat Roman 105-25 plus Moorish 49 - 22.

Woods masked off most of the right edge. A large plateau sat on the far right on the enemy side, looking down on these woods. A medium hill lay in the Roman center-left sector with medium woods shielding its right flank, and a smaller woods a bit further towards the edge, cutting down flanking space a little.

We deployed three commands of lancers supported by horse archers and screened by lights across the center with a smaller lancer command in reserve to the rear. We also had a small detachment of medium foot to help clear woods in reserve. This left us free to shift, depending on the Roman deployment.

The Romans chose to deploy on the medium hill on their right. Their legionnaires lined up along the hill with their cavalry covering their left flank. A small screen of lights covered their front, and a few light horse screened the open area between the woods on their right. A pair of heavy artillery sat behind the line to shoot at us.

We pushed forward one wing and our medium foot to sweep aside the screening lights and threaten their right. Our other commands shifted right to sweep around their left. The Romans advanced and took up positions along the slopes and refused their left in anticipation of our flanking moves.

As our right wing advanced, we discovered a large Moorish light horse command hidden behind the plateau. This led to a running skirmish as our lights and lancers slowly drove this back towards the main Roman body on the hill. We suffered a few losses, but eventually destroyed or chased most of this off the field.

On our left, our lights, supported by our lancers, dispatched the opposing lights and dealt with a couple of medium foot in and around the woods. Our lancers pushed on to threaten the rear of the Romans on the hill.

In the center, we drove in the enemy lights with charges and our lancers spread out to pin down the Roman foot, while our flanking moves developed. The Romans, unhappy with those prospects, began pushing back our lancers with a series of charges that took them off the slopes of the hill. This inevitably led to some of their foot getting disrupted and also broke up their lines. We took advantage of this, flanking and destroying several of their units, opening further gaps for us to exploit. We did lose a lancer or two, as sometimes they got flanked or fallbacks blocked.

On our right, with the destruction of the light horse, our units were free to fall on flanks and rears of engaged foot or to see off the surviving lights hiding behind their heavy foot. We also overran the Roman artillery.

These mounting losses proved too much, and the remaining Romans retreated from the field.
