Create your own campaign!

Post by Tobi72 »

Hello everyone,

I have now learned how to create scenarios in Panzer Corps 2. As an example, I am providing my small practice scenario here. It is nothing special: Japan vs. USA, 22 turns, with the objective to capture all primary victory hexes.

However, I would now like to try creating a campaign, at least a small one at first. For that reason, I am looking for information, a guide, or a tutorial explaining how to build a campaign and how to edit the required files.

In Panzer Corps 1, creating a campaign was quite easy, but in Panzer Corps 2 it does not feel very self-explanatory to me.

Does anyone here know more about this, or can someone point me in the right direction?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,
Tobi

Hurrah, it is done! My first custom campaign for Panzer Corps 2 is finally running.

I have to be honest: getting there was not easy. The structure for custom campaigns in PC2 is much more complicated than I expected, and at times I was really close to giving up. That makes me even happier now that it finally works.

When I find some time now and then, I will continue working on a small Pacific campaign.

Unfortunately, the unit list for the Japanese isn't very extensive, and I couldn't find anything at all for the Chinese side. So, if I plan to carry out any projects, they will be limited to small- to medium-sized missions and campaigns. However, I discovered that I can import my Yamato-Sakhalin, Lake Khasan, and Khalkhin Gol campaigns and adapt them for PC2.

With this, my request for help or guidance on creating custom campaigns has been resolved.

The transition to the second Pacific mission worked without any problems. There are still a few finer details I need to learn, but the most difficult part for me — setting up the correct file structure and the basic scripting — is already done.

I was quite surprised when I checked my PC2 page again today. My small practice scenario “Minamoto” has already been downloaded 290 times.

In terms of structure, it is still fairly simple, as I created it mainly as a pilot project. I am using it to keep learning and to try out new things. It was my first serious attempt at designing a Pacific War scenario, and it still lacks some final polish. So players should not expect too much from it yet.

Nevertheless, thank you very much for your curiosity and interest.

It still feels a bit strange here on this page, though—as if I were standing in an abandoned train station building, talking to myself.

Best regards,
Tobi

Hi Tobi, I've been following with interest that you've already created a campaign for Panzer Corps in the Pacific; maybe you'll surprise everyone with one for Panzer Corps 2.

Hi Raider
Exactly—there is more than just one: the Yamato campaign (1937–41, 50 missions), an Iwo Jima mini-campaign, and Operation Galvanic (also a mini-campaign), as well as two standalone scenarios. I am currently working on a small, fictional tutorial campaign for PC2 (6 missions) featuring the USA against Japan. For now, I’m keeping it simple—no special missions yet, just capturing primary objectives—since the editor is very complex and not exactly easy to use. Once it’s finished, I will definitely make it available.
greetings Tobi

Here is another attempt at a scenario—Operation Landcrab—this time a bit larger, 40x38. Not finished yet, but coming soon.Operation Landcrab was the Allied operation to recapture Attu Island in the Aleutians from 11 to 30 May 1943.
U.S. troops of the 7th Infantry Division landed at Massacre Bay and in the Holtz Bay area to trap the Japanese garrison under Colonel Yasuyo Yamasaki.
The Japanese defended mainly the inland heights, valleys, and passes, including Fish Hook Ridge, the Chichagof Harbor area, and the approaches between Holtz Bay and Massacre Valley.
Snow, fog, cold, mud, and steep terrain made the American advance extremely slow and costly.
Despite naval gunfire, air support, and numerical superiority, the Americans had to fight their way forward position by position.
On 29 May, Yamasaki led the remaining Japanese troops in a final large banzai attack toward the American rear areas, including the sector around Engineer Hill.
The attack was defeated, and by 30 May 1943 organized Japanese resistance on Attu had effectively ended.
The operation became one of the harshest battles of the Aleutian campaign and had one of the highest U.S. casualty rates of the Pacific War relative to the number of troops engaged.

Hello, my scenario "Operation Landcrab" is ready for download. It spans 45 turns; I hope it is neither too easy nor too difficult. The player receives extra prestige points for capturing most objectives—whether primary or secondary—as well as additional prestige points per turn. So, the more objectives the player holds, the more prestige is generated each round—provided I’ve set everything up correctly. Have fun!
