Newbie help.
I've no idea how many people still care about this game but,
I've beaten 40k Rites of War, Chaos Gate (1998) and Final Liberation: Warhammer Epic 40k so I thought I'd have the experience and wisdom to tackle this game but I was sorely wrong lol. I'm getting defeated near non-stop so I have to ask if there's newbie guides out there, "best starter army" tips etc etc I could use to stop embarrassing myself.
I'm legit at my wits end by now.

Re: Newbie help.
This game has been decimating my mental health so I just uninstalled. Might be worth dropping a reply if you can regardless in case any new players are curious too lol.

Re: Newbie help.
There is a tutorial campaign and you can choose the right level of difficulty.
In general, the first game released in the series is the easiest.
Each game has its own particularities.

Ogrins+Leman Russ Annihilator with lascanons+Basilisks. This is a 40k Warhammer... heavy artillery is the basis.XenosFan40k wrote: Mon May 25, 2026 2:02 am This game has been decimating my mental health so I just uninstalled. Artillery is a stationary unit in a game that emphasizes unit movement in my experience. There's a few defense scenarios here and there but due to time limits and spread out Victory Hexes, having more than two artillery will dramatically weaken your army. Artillery is my favorite warfare style but this game is not Final Liberation where its bread and butter to win a scenario lmfaoNskap2 wrote: Wed Jun 03, 2026 6:39 amOgrins+Leman Russ Annihilator with lascanons+Basilisks. This is a 40k Warhammer... heavy artillery is the basis.XenosFan40k wrote: Mon May 25, 2026 2:02 am This game has been decimating my mental health so I just uninstalled. Regardless, I used cheats to beat the game once I reached enough hyper-difficult scenarios. I'm not proud of it (at all) but this is the most unforgiving, brutal, hope devouring TBS game I've ever had the displeasure of playing,,,, ;; To the devs credit, the game is VERY thematic this way but yeah it ripped me to shreds spiritually!
I really don't know if I'll ever come back to try and beat it without cheats. A part of my soul wishes for that but then my mind screams at me not too! I dared to brave the Ultramarines DLC but mission 3 doesn't seem possible without completing the Secret Objective in Mission 1 which itself is an extreme difficulty.
I wanna say the difficulty is overtuned, stupidly unfair, rip my shirt and roar with more criticisms but beating this game is very possible so I can't really say that logically lol.
Overall I've played some truly hard games in my life but not one has ever truly humbled me so brutally as this.
Unforgettable experience that grates my ego like shredded cheese.

Re: Newbie help.
When I start a new game, I always start with a low difficulty to understand the tricks and mechanisms, then I increase the level of difficulty as I experience it.
Very good strategy game.

Ок. Ogryns+Leman Russ Annihilator with lascanons+Basilisks+Salamander Scout+morale restoring unit+ terrain features. This is an option for playing on a very hard. This is not necessary to complete scenario on easy or normal, since the points will be returned at the beginning of the next mission to buy new units to replace the lost ones, they will be enough to complete the mission.XenosFan40k wrote: Thu Jun 04, 2026 7:53 am Artillery is a stationary unit in a game that emphasizes unit movement in my experience. Re: Newbie help.
Alright. I've uninstalled for good now. Got to Mission 3 in the Blood Angels campaign and lost at turn 13.
I gave the game an overall 41 hours worth of effort but my psyche is at severe risk if I continue lol.
GG Slitherine! this game is now crowned the hardest in the world for me.

Is it always necessary to win? Defeat is a wonderful experience.
