Flank March questions
Can anyone give me the answer to the following questions please ?
I want to flank march a mounted command that can dismount...
1) Do I test for arrival / stragglers as all mounted if I intend to deploy it dismounted ?
2) I assume I have the choice of whether to dismount or not when the march arrives and do not have to declare it earlier ?
Cheers
PS THe Tibetan list in E of D looks delightful !

1. They test as drilled cataphracts which is what they are.
2. They must be dismounted when first deployed, the other 2 bullets being irrelevant.
3. The compulsory optional or is it optional compulsory fortified camp ruins it.

Don't worry Phil it is almost certainly a mistake - I can't recall anything that would suggest it should be compulsory. Mind you don't hold your breath for errata at the moment.

If you move on you measure from the table edge to find you position at the end of the movement phase. Whereas if you deploy you troops start in a deployment zone and move from there.philqw78 wrote:The difference being???lawrenceg wrote:Flank marchers never deploy on table, they move on, .
It is suprising how long it can take to get a flank march into action from the table edge. Just don't try it with heavy foot.

But that is still deployment. They are deployed by moving them on.hoodlum wrote:If you move on you measure from the table edge to find you position at the end of the movement phase. Well done Paul!
You've found something on which the rules are totally silent - and therfore no surprise to see a mix of views.
My advice would be to PM Simon and get his view?
FWIW I think that should be treated as how they're deployed. So if they come on dismounted they have a greater chance of straggling - but what do I know?

Problem with this approach is that it is more difficult to arrive if you are heavy foot...FWIW I think that should be treated as how they're deployed. So if they come on dismounted they have a greater chance of straggling
Would you have to throw extra to decide? i.e. if I throw a 10 I can arrive as mounted, but if I throw an 11 I can arrive dismounted or still on my nag?
If you are going to mail the authors can you ask them to sort out orb as well please.

re the dismounting it says when they are first deployed, so it sounds like the travel on horse and deploy to foot.
