In Westwall, why are some of my american units green and unable to move??

Post by mg73 »

I'm not sure what is going on. I just downloaded and installed Frontline Westwall. When I go to play the campaign, I'm seeing that some of my units have been predeployed on the map and have a green strength flag below them. I am unable to use these units in the game. When I click on them and try to move them, the movement hexes are displayed in green but the unit will not move. They basically stay as deployed throughout the whole scenario. They also don't show up on my core or reserve box anywhere. Also in the upper right corner of the screen where the turn markers are, there is a star for the American turn, then just to the right is the iron cross for the german turn, then just to the right of the cross is a second star for what appears to be another american turn. It's like it's indicating it's a multiplayer scenario with two american turns and one german turn sandwiched between them. But I never checked off anything to play a multiplayer game. And the turn indicater just cycles between the two left markers and never goes to the far right star. I don't know what is going on. Is this a bug? I can't imagine why the game would be designed to include units that can't be used.
Help please.

They belong to player #3 who is on your side but not controlled by you; as the post above indicated: they are AI-controlled. You, likely, share vision, airfields and support with player#3 but not slots or prestige. I suspect that they have been given orders to Hold Position but, if a specific unit detects an enemy unit, it might move to engage otherwise it will just defend its original hex.

This clears up some of the confusion, thanks. Terminator's post is a jpeg image with no explanation. Is there a manual that comes with Westwall that explains any of this? I didn't encounter this AI controlled third player when playing the original Panzer Corps releases. Is there a manual that explains the new features of Westwall? I can't seem to find it.

You should play the vanilla Panzer Corps 2 campaign first, PC1 won't help much in terms of rules in PC2. There should be a manual for the base game campaign in your installation folder, and a tutorial campaign in game.

During the game, messages appear that explain what the AI is doing.
In this DLC, the AI is basically just holding its positions, AI does not play a big role if I remember correctly.

PS: images can be more explicit than text because of their ability to evoke emotions and illustrate concepts visually.

Hi -- there's the Westwall FAQ thread:

It also has a bit on AI-controlled units if you scroll down a tad.
