Vikings managed to gain the hill and grind down all those veteran spearmen.

Triarii defeats nosferatu score 48-22
Although on pretty open ground Vikings mange to trap one flanking move and break it against a wood and map edge while frustrating on the opposite flank. It was almost long enough to get a very early victory as the Huscarls ground through the opposing shield wall but several Viking spear units were eventually flanked and routed.

This civil war was fought in a congested battlefield with a steep and difficult hill in the centre and a lot of woods. The later Germans brought more lancers and the earlier Germans some Magyar horse archers and a lot of light bow. The battle was however, as to be expected, a proper dark ages slog between superior and average spear grinding each other down.
Battle could have gone either way.
