I tried to rebase a fresh unmoved plane to a Dirt airfield in good flying weather but it couldn't fly because the airfield didn't become highlighted when I clicked 'Rebase'.
I can't remember if planes were already based there and there presumably wasn't room for another one?
Or do Dirts only take small planes and not bombers? How many?
Anything else I need to know?
What capacity are Airfields and Dirt airfields?

Dirt airfields can take 5 planes and cannot support strat bombers, full airfields can and have a capacity of 7.
Rebasing can bridge a distance of at most 2x the range of the plane. Rain/snow prevents rebasing of course.
There exists a 'fast rebase' hero trait, in which a rebase leaves the move action intact (multiple rebase actions possible, handy for reconnaissance but a bit of an exploit). The 'Fear of the unknown' trait has no effect on a rebase.

Re: What capacity are Airfields and Dirt airfields?
Dirt airfields are a bit limited compared to regular ones. In most cases, they can only support smaller aircraft (like fighters or light planes), so bombers usually won’t be able to rebase there. Capacity can also be an issue—if the strip is already full, it won’t highlight as a valid destination.
It’s also worth checking if the airfield is within range and not damaged or restricted by any scenario rules. If everything else looks fine, chances are it’s either a size restriction or capacity limit causing the issue.

Dirt Runway can support 5 Fighter and Tactical Bomber class aircraft that are not jet planes.
Airfield can hold 7 aircraft of any types.
If the airfield was captured in your very turn with enemy aircraft still based in it, those would also take up the capacity until they were shot down in this turn or forced to rebase in their next turn.
