Captainwaltersavage Ptolemaic 55-30 BC with Roman
defeats
Bodhran Samnite 355-272BC with Gallic 300-
53:24
A fairly big open plain meant that we just went at each other. The legions proved to be superior to the warbands and the Samnites. My cheap legions were decimated but their noble deaths allowed the rest of the army to defeat enough troops to win the day.

Division A
markleslie Seleucid 302-301 BC with Lysimachid 320-281 BC allies defeats rafydedel Bosporan 348-85 BC 43-7.
Turn 2
My Seleucids arrived on the field in march order prepared to do a lot more of it before serious fighting began.
The Bosporan force had far fewer mounted than I expected and I surprisingly found myself in the position to be aggressive with my own.

Turn 10
The bulk of the Seleucid mounted drove up the right, the Bosporan mounted fled, leaving their foot to their fate.
The main infantry lines eventually drifted into contact and the phalangites performed as expected.

To my opponent, SALUTE!

Division D
Solemnace Sarmatian 350BCE-25CE defeats Antivirt Roman 105--25 BC with Numidian 41-9
The Romans and Numidians form a strong position on a hill with Artillery support and light foot and horse occupying the surrounding areas of rough ground. Initially faced with this difficult to attack position the Sarmatians hesitated sending a slow moving force around the Romans left to try and get at the artillery to enable the Sarmatian centre to advance without fear of artillery attacks. At this point the Sarmatian left moved to engage light horse occupying a rough hill and routed or drove off many of them and some of the left and centre combinded with careful maneuvering to drive the Roman and Numidian light foot from a second rough hill routing many. At this point the three flanks converged on the Roman and Numidian infantry to surround them. Some of the Roman and Numidian infantry broke out to engage Sarmatian light foot brought to deal with any elephants. They caught one in the process but an Irregular foot unit was wiped out by sustained javelin attack. By this point the Roman artillery had been neutralised but time was running short for the Sarmatians who resorted to high risk tactics which exposed their lancers to danger but were able to break a number of Roman Infantry units to force the Romans and Numidians to break.

markleslie Seleucid 302-301 BC with Lysimachid 320-281 BC allies vs random27 Indian 500 BC-319 AD 61-51.
Turn 2
The Seleucids again in march columns while the Indian horde adopt the long, long line formation much loved by certain armies.

Turn 7
The main line of contest seems to be agreed; the pond provides a poor barrier to envelopement and none at all to the missile storm.

https://go.screenpal.com/watch/cOnofIn0qha
Another glorious pyrrhic victory for the good guys (hurrah!) and of course, another SALUTE to my far too staunch opponent.

Division D
Ironclad Macedonian 320-261 BC with Greek allies defeated SawyerK Seleucid 166-125 BC with Jewish allies 67-40
Two well matched pike armies faced each other on a wide open plain with some areas of rough and a small lake. After earlier movement for positioning battle was joined across a wide extent of the field.
The Macedonians gained an earlier advantage in the fight for the rough on the left and and in the initial phase of the pike battle but the Seleucids fought back sharply forcing the Macedonians to divert a much needed pike unit to the action in the rough despite their beginning to lose in the heavy infantry struggle. Meanwhile the superior Seleucid cavalry were making a significant impact on the flanks; by the lake forcing the Macedonians to divert an elephant there to shore up the position and on the other flank using their powerful cataphracts to overwhelm the enemy cavalry and to tie down a strong infantry force from intervening in the central battle.

Re: TDC IX Classical - Results
The Macedonians managed to hold onto their earlier lead as the battle progressed and luckily benefitted from some timely rallies including one notable turn when two pike units were restored, recovering sufficiently to contribute decisively in the final stage of the struggle as did the two elephants on opposite flanks. My opponent worked wonders in extricating his army from a number of desperate situations to keep the contest in play but in the end numbers told. A good entertaining game. Thanks.

defeats
Morat Carthaginian (Hannibal in Italy) 216-203 with Samnite
67:53
An incredibly close battle fought over a mix of terrain separated by a deep stream. The armies battered each other to a stand still The Carthaginians had the best of the infantry battle but the Ptolemies won the cavalry exchange. The Carthaginian veteran spears were not in top form though and the phalanxes and legionaries were good enough to hold on. A couple of timely rallies secured the victory at the end. We nearly ran out of time. A great battle!

Ironclad Macedonian 320-261 BC with Greek allies defeated Indibil Seleucid 206-167 BC 44-16
The display shows the position at the end of the game and the terrain that influenced the battle.
At the start the Seleucids held the high ground to the north. A formidable position which the Macedonians were understandably reluctant to assault. Instead they adopted a more gradual approach using the rough terrain to infiltrate units to harass and threaten the enemy cavalry based on the right whilst also using slingers to degrade the enemy elephant. The Seleucids launched a successful attack with light cavalry and infantry against the Macedonian right wing but on the main front isolated counter attacks from the hills by mediums and a superior warband were crushed by superior Macedonian numbers. By the time the Seleucid pikes were committed to battle, attrition losses and the unravelling of their right and left flanks had doomed their army to defeat. Thanks for a good game.
