Has anyone managed to come up with a decent Khmer list.? All that average filler and not a sword in sight (apart from the Thai allies) makes the army very brittle and uncompetitive in an open comp (blasphemy!).

Looking at the list I think that there is a pretty good elephant horde in there.

I did a quick list with 7 BGs of elephants (using a Champa ally),

3 TC
2 BG of 8 LF bow
1 BG of 8 LF javelin
1 BG of 4 unprotected cavalry
2 BG of 6 drilled spearmen
1 BG of 10 conscript spearmen (I have found BGs of 10 cheap MF to be quite handy in the slave revolt list)
6 BG of 2 elephants
Champa ally TC
1 BG of cavalry (either the crossbow cav or bow light horse)
1 BG of 6 drilled spearmen
1 BG of elephants

Interesting list, Hammy. One would certainly not want to get caught in front of it, especially with mounted. It could potentially do quite well if the player kept it compact and avoided getting the El BGs seperated too much.

Played a game last week versus Malay - heaps of elephants. However very linear and very brittle. We had mutual destruction in a quick game as once something went wrong both armies unzipped quickly. The Khmer foot are basically rubbish without a sword. The Thai ally does allow some swordsmen.

I must agree that the Khmer list is merely dead men walking. The lack of swordsmen for the drilled foot is a killer; they are unable to offer any meaningful flank or rough terrain support. Also the army does not have the flavor of the army depicted on the monuments. I posted some suggestions for modifications on the modifications list. If you do play the Khmer, I suggest a maximum size Thai ally.
