Small Delay

Post by admin »

Hi guys

I know how eagerly awaited the release of the game is but we have a few issues we think need a little more time to fully test. We are pushing the release date back by 1 week. Many apologies for this delay but I'm sure you would prefer to have a properly tested and balanced game than one we had rushed to complete.

If anyone who has pre-ordered has any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to get in contact.

The delay has got slightly bigger as we have decided to add a multiplayer server on day one. The plan was to patch this in later but we feel it makes more sense to have it available for all from the beginning.

Is it a dedicated server or peer-to-peer?

It is a server but it is not for direct head to head play. You play your turn and the server handles passing it to your opponent and notifying them when it is available. It will also handle matching making and opponent finding. So it is PBEM++.

It is now the 12th of Oct and you posted that info 10 days ago!! Where is MY GAME?!!! GDmit! {g} I pray to the gaming gods the ai is good in this because I haven't had a good decent new game in years now. Everything I buy for the most part is bargain bin cause I'm tired of getting ripped off by just publish it attitude and let the fools rush in and waste their money. Now gemme my game. {g}

What happened to the only "small delay" ? What happened to "What we would like to do is offer all those who have pre-ordered the chance to immediately join the beta test." This was prmised on 1. October. Today is 12. October. I registered for joining the beta test, but received no answer per E-Mail and the only answr i got in the forum is:
"Yes we have let the first batch in already, those who applied first. It takes a while to process each batch so we have to do it in chunks. The next batch will be allowed in later this week or next week."

May i hope, to get the chance to join the game before it is released? Or should i hope as customer who pre-ordered the game, that it will be released soon? Or may i even hope to get some information when what will actually happen?

Yes all people who applied will be let in - we are just preparing a new version before you join otherwise you woudl have to apply various patches to get up to date and its a bit fiddly so we wanted to keep it as simple as possible for you guys.

Please hurry I've been waiting for this one for a long time. I'm sick of the Total War engine and I need a new game that has an ai that does something different at least once in awhile. This looks really good in the screenshots. Can you tell us how piece removal will work? Will it be like Tin Soldiers:Caesar where a hand will come out and remove pieces or what? It says 12 historical battles is that all? Will Caesar at Alesia be included? If so will it be as detailed as the Avalon Hill game of the same name? That's my favorite ancient battle as it had so many units and a lot of action.
I'm am disappointed that you didn't include some sort of buy your units sort of system where players could put in an amount of points like in the Total War custom battles and play out random battle setups from that? I really do hate canned scenario/mission type games as they have no longevity and I don't care to use any scenario editor or use those others create as they aren't professional designers and I've seen some that are just crap.
Anyways I'll probably still buy it if I read the ai is great.

We plan to add all those features in future releases of the game but we wanted to get an inital game out that allowed historical scenarios. The AI is going to be continually upgraded, though it will never be as good as a human player. The multiplayer system will be very easy to use - no direct connection required, so ideal for people on busy schedules - you can get your 10 minute move done and then pass it on for your opponent and they'll pass it back the next day. You can have as many games in progress as you like. It is all handled automatically by the server so no saved games to pass round, you just play :)

Ahh ok that is good news. Typically I only require 3 things. Randomness or buy units based on value system and well ok not a uber ai but come on there's some good ai's out there to take a lesson from. Civilization AI is good on higher difficulties. Warlords IV ai is one of the best I've encountered in years. Even Tin Soldiers ai is good, but, it does get a bit of a cheat in more units in every scenario and battle. I'd prefer to see it take advantage of flanking and keeping missle units out of harms way. I don't care if the ai is over aggressive, I don't care if it gets handicaps, what I do care about is on the two highest difficulties if it's as easy to beat as any other difficulty in tactical battles I will be very disappointed.

Now you did a great job with Spartan it's still one of my favorites. Though it was hands off battles if you could make Fields of Glory give that kind of fun experience I would be elated. {g}

BTW are you ever going to make a Legions/Spartan 2 with a better empire building game? I was a little put off with Spartan that it had fixed community sizes that could only grow to certain levels. I'd like to see same games with more open growth opportunities and player controlled tactical battles or at least more commands that could be issued during the ai controlled battles.

First post here,

And I'd like to know, if it is possible and permissible, when will the game actually be released?

It's been 3 weeks since the "delay that got bigger", and still there are no news of the game.

So excuse me for asking but, when is the game, more or less, going to be released? and are there any news concerning it?

We're working hard to add a new mutiplayer system which is taking a bit longer than intended. We still hope to release before the end of the month.
