Was talking to a friend of mine during a game and the subject of streams came up. When they appear on a battlefield it seemed to us that they almost always go from east to west almost straight across the battlefield. Now that can sometimes cause the game to stagnate or to favour one side or the other, perhaps the side with most missile troops.
Now of course some competitions enable that to be circumvented by rerolls on the map used but other do not.
I feel it would be more interesting if the streams could perhaps sometimes flow North/South or even diagonally from say the North west corner to the South east corner.
Thoughts?
Streams
Re: Streams
Well we already have streams/rivers and coast running north/south, though these are usually impassable. I suspect that's to reflect the ancient practice of anchoring one's flank on such.
Likewise, crossable rivers/streams were often meeting points, so understand why they tend to simply run across the board in the middle.
That being said, I'd welcome the odd chance of a diagonal or north-south stream. That might be something that could be modded?

If you pay attention to the Pot Luck map generation, then you notice that it usually favors one player heavily anyway by giving them more flexibility. Say taking less infantry because in the worst case they can hide them in the wood patches.
Generally speaking armies with more missile troops if backed up by cavalry types and light horses and enough quality infantry are always better than infantry based armies. That's a newb trap unless your goal is to swarm with sheer numbers by pinning the whole enemy line and enveloping before engaging.
But competent player can avoid that. At extreme case by grabbing the map edge and standing their ground if that's Steppes Pot Luck with no prominent defensive terrain. Otherwise Split Army Kiting, Staircase Shape or reverted L shape formation or Wedge schemes for infantry allow to engage narrow frontage of Generaled up Superior troops to enable quick breakthrough.
