How does the encirclement work in Kiev North?
I have a problem with this scenario. I took all the enemy supply points, and was hoping that would already archive the encirclement / cut all their units off. But it didn't.
What else do I need to take? From the initial start point, I went south, took the two river crossings, but stopped there. Then went east, took the city in the north east, and went south to take Sumy and Poltova. The aux troops in the south took the eastern river crossing, the ones in the south west, I kept at save distance from Kiev.

Where is it? Is it a scenario somewhere?
I'd like to have a crack at it..

The key here is not the supply points really but getting zone of control around as many units as you can. As you can see form the screen that player did not even take Sumy, he just made sure that all the terrain is under ZOC wall, including supply from map edges in the west.

One possible path in the base campaign.PoorOldSpike wrote: ↑Thu Oct 16, 2025 3:17 pm Where is it? Is it a scenario somewhere?

Yes, I tried to do it like this. But somehow it did now work until my units were only a couple of hex fields east of Kiev, i.e. almost in the city. This large encirclement like on the screenshot does not work for me. I am pretty. sure I did not leave any holes in my encirclement. Blocked all the bridges of the major rivers, encircled west of Kiev, then had a line of units close everyhing off in the eastern part of the map.
So I am wondering if maybe an update in the last couple of years changed the rules to make this large encirclement impossible? The screenshot is from 2020, as are the Youtube videos I found. Hmm.
Or maybe I need a special leader attribute for this to work?

If u provide a screenshot of ur not working encirclement we can tell u where ur hole is.smashtheaxis wrote: ↑Thu Oct 16, 2025 6:29 pmThanks for the replies!Tassadar wrote: ↑Thu Oct 16, 2025 3:21 pm See this for example some user posted on Steam:

Re: How does the encirclement work in Kiev North?
Speaking of encirclement, it sometimes has me scratching my head trying to figure out if units are in or out of supply, for example I could have sworn the ZOC of one of my tanks extended into a swamp hex to encircle an enemy, but I eventually realised my tank couldn't move into the swamp hex because its low movement allowance didn't allow it, therefore its ZOC didn't extend into the hex either.
Below is a test I did with my Matilda II, it has a default movement allowance of only '3', therefore it can move into any of the other hexes but not into the swamp hex unless along a road-

Thanks, that was the solution. I thought they could not supply from the West for some reason.

Speaking of supply, correct me if I'm wrong but the hexes along all 4 map edges in all campaigns and scens are supply sources?smashtheaxis wrote: ↑Sat Oct 18, 2025 8:41 pm Thanks, that was the solution. I thought they could not supply from the West for some reason.

Yes, map edges give supply just as supply hexes do.PoorOldSpike wrote: ↑Mon Oct 20, 2025 3:25 pmSpeaking of supply, correct me if I'm wrong but the hexes along all 4 map edges in all campaigns and scens are supply sources?smashtheaxis wrote: ↑Sat Oct 18, 2025 8:41 pm Thanks, that was the solution.
