Mejobo's Antigonids defeat Asterix_von_TWC's Romans 62-50 after a hard fought battle. The field was a classic for this sort of match up - rough hills and woods to one side, a stream separating the armies, and mountains keeping the further edges of the map from being used. A bit of a delaying force on the Antigonid right (in the open fields) held a hill with some artillery while the bulk of their forces made an oblique attack around the rough hills with medium and light infantry support. The roman attack sought a double envelopment by my estimation, but the overall fight became a battle of attrition, more or less, which the pikes were able to hold out long enough in to defeat the Roman right flank in full.

Mejobo's Antigonids defeat Indibil's Pathians 71-51
Another close one. By my assessment it was basically won by the Antigonid elephants being extremely effective against cataphracts. By the end the Parthian pikes had broken too, but man-for-man the Parthians would have won it were it not for the elephants sufficiently breaking the cataphracts that they were able to even come around and flank some of the hold out infantry.

Kroche Carthaginian 490-411BC w Greek 460 49% loss
defeats
Morat Galatian 62-25 BC with Roman 62% loss
A very close battle which saw Carthaginians move to occupy some of a large plateau with small slope facing the enemy. Carthaginian medium foot occupied a large hill further forward, but far to the right. Galatian forces moved towards the plateau in an arrow formation - legionaries directed to the centre, supported by warbands, mediums protecting their left and a cavalry wing protecting their right. Carthaginians braced for impact and realised they needed to leave the large hill to support their main line and threaten the Galatian left. Carthaginian had to move some infantry supported by 2 chariots and a sup cav to block the Galatian/Roman cav. Carthaginian centre held vs initial charges and their medium force had good success against Galatian left - due to numbers and engaging a close order warband in rough. The centre was a clash of wills with many units dropping down to autobreak territory. As the warbands and legionaries pushing in the centre threatened total breakthrough the Carthaginians had to try to push back against the cavalry wing on the left and a fortunate pursuit of an evading unit led the Carthaginian cavalry unit to a flanking position against the left of the Galatian main - this enabled a couple of routs and breaking the Galatian stranglehold in the centre. These routs gave Carthaginans a winning lead - Galatians were still in the fight and a Veteran Legionary coming back to steady from fragged held the line and turned the tables on the Carthaginians desperate to finish it off. Carthaginians just got over the line in what could have been their last opportunity as another turn could have seen result swing the other way. GG

mejobo's Antigonids defeat excubitor's Pyrrhics 62-48
Another close battle with rough hill on the Antigonid left and open field on the right. I more or less did an oblique attack with a bit more medium infantry than the Pyrrhics on the hill and an echelon formation (and also double ranked near the hill) push with the pikes alongside across the open field. Was a bit of a race against some cavalry going for a long flank around the hill and behind a wood on the Antigonid side of the hill, where a few medium infantry and javelins were able to defeat some and prevent others from arriving before the battle was largely decided. Still ended up getting close as pikes and warbands managed to wear down the pikes on the refused Antigonid right flank and turn the battle into the remaining Antigonids fighting downhill from their original left to the right. At that point the Antigonids were closer to the Pyrrhic starting line and vice versa, and it seemed unlikely the battle would swing back to a Pyrrhic victory as too much of the Pyrrhic force were cavalry or hoplites trapped in a swirling melee. In contrast, the Antigonids could afford to lose their encircled units left behind in that chaos while pressing down in a more controlled fashion with a pretty solid line of remaining pikes and thureophoroi - as well as some cavalry that had pursued through some gaps created in the push of pike early on, or had evaded around the right flank, now conveniently encircling the remaining Pyrrhic force.

SawyerK leading the Macedonian 355-329 BC army with Greek 460-281 BC ally
defeated
Indibil and his Parthian 250 BC to 225 AD army with Seleucid 166-125 BC ally
by 40-14.
The two parties waged a positional battle that unfolded slowly. Initially, the Parthians extended their light and heavy cavalry archers on their right flank, but they were repulsed by javelin horse and numerous light foot protected by a marsh. A left flank extension by the Parthian massed archers into a zone of rough ground had a debilitating effect on the Macedonians, but a surprise assault by medium foot out of a forested area eliminated the archers. When the Macedonians' pikes extended forward, they caught just enough of the Parthian forces to obtain a 40-14 victory before ever encountering the Seleucid pikes or Argyraspides.

Captainwaltersavage Macedonian 320-261
defeats
grahamed Seleucid 166-125BC with Parthian
62:37
A narrow battlefield bounded by the sea to the left and forest on the right meant that the battle plain was filled with phalanxes from both sides. The Seleucids largely had the better of the face to face confrontation but the sneaky Macedonian flanking force that pushed through the forest managed to both protect and guide the elephants to the right place to do the most damage. Great credit goes to all the loyal Macedonians who died slowly enough for the flanking force to get enough kicks in to kill the Seleucid left flank. Both sides had lots of rallies but this time I was favoured by the dice gods and three rallies on the last turn swung the balance too much for the Seleucids to recover.
All games now played - I just think the match with Snooky 51 was not recorded on the last table. victory for me 46:20
