Just Finished up a run on YT as Sparta in the Persia 550-330 Scenario

Post by Willcol100 »

I recently just finished up a run on YouTube/Twitch as Sparta in Field of Glory: Empires Persia 550-330 scenario. The series was recorded live to twitch. The last video went live on YouTube today. The run took 217 turns and 24 parts on YouTube. The run took one restart early game to get a good start going. The run had both victory and defeat. (The difference was what I asked for in the last peace deal, loaded from an auto save near the end to get the victory... didn't realize I was so close the end date and had originally signed a peace deal I would want for the "long haul".)

A playlist to the run can be found here:

For some highlights of the run, the realities of the Spartan starting situation and nation modifiers is that you are going to be fighting outnumbered almost all the time. The almost unstoppable Spartan Hoplites and Phalanxes help to make up for this as veteran ones can assuming good support reliably have minimum rolls of 7 on the dice rolls making their battle lines constantly deadly for the opposition. This when added to the nearby regions availability of good skirmishers such as Cretan Archers making it easy to form a very reliable battle line. With one of the main weakness of the army being the availability of good cavalry to protect the flanks. (What total defeats I suffered occurring when the loss of the Cav resulted attrition due to having inadequately protected flanks.) The run would see Spartan stacks of size 20ish fighting Persian stacks of about 100ish large because that was what the AI though was a "fair" fight. Needless given the terrain most of the time the Spartans won as the majority of the Persian stack couldn't get into battle.

For the next game I am thinking of swapping sides and seeing how the scenario plays out from the Persian perspective. I understand that it will likely be a bit easier than the playthrough as Sparta, and the main enemy will likely be Egypt not the Greeks given how the AI plays them. If you have any suggestion on other nations to play let me know.
