Perry Halberdiers

Post by DaiSho »

Hi All,

I just started painting up some Perry Medieval Halberdiers. Unfortunately I can't show a picture, but I'll try to discribe what I'm talking about.

The guy in question has a helmet similar to a WWII British Tommy helmet. Coming off the back of the helmet (underneath) is a long thin piece of what appears to be cloth that goes all the way down his back. It's almost like what I'd expect if he was wearing a long plait in his hair (which he isn't).

I'm wondering if anyone knows what that is, and whether it should be 'brightly coloured' or coloured the same as his cowl, etc etc.

Any thoughts appreciated.

It sounds like a rain cape, Which should be predominately leather but could in fact be any old scrap of cloth tied about the head prior to putting on the Helmet.

Thanks Spartacus.

I didn't think slaves (escaped or otherwise) would have as much knowledge as you :).

I'll do mostly 'leather' and a few 'coloured' to make it appropriate.

Could be a liripipe. It was fashionable to wear hooded cowls with a very long tail during the latter half of the 14th century. So it should be the same color as the cowl. Ian Heath's "Armies of the Middle Ages, volume 1" has an example on page 131, figure 89.

Hi,

Thanks for your post, but I think Spartacus *pointing to the one nailed up there* had the right thought as to what it is. I thought along the similar lines to you at first, but it's too flat and wide, so I'm thinking something to catch rainwater dripping off the back of the helm is more likely.

Thanks for your thougths tho.

That’s a cool detail, Ian! Just like choosing between a https://themotorcyclejackets.com/brand/ ... g-jackets/ or a , it depends if you want it to blend in with realism or stand out with style.
