Editing Unit Icon/Art + Texture

Sengoku Jidai: Shadow of the Shogun is a turn-based tactical and strategic game set during this turbulent time; primarily focusing on the Japanese Warring States period and Japanese Invasion of Korea. Other armies from East Asia are also made available to simulate different conflicts across the region.

Editing Unit Icon/Art + Texture

I'm posting this question to get some help since this question has never been posted on this forum.

I'm in the middle of editing and creating new unit icons. Editing the main side icon is straightforward (export as .dds), but I'm lost on what to do with the four unit icons ("_SLOT").

I could simply edit the slots themselves and be done with it, though it certainly makes them an eyesore, especially the transparent one. Is there a template I could use somewhere in the texture file? How would I proceed to make an icon_slot file from scratch if I need to?

And what program should I be using to edit unit texture in SJIDAI?

Internally we use Photoshop and illustrator.

The _slot graphics are buttons.
So top left is the regular button ( note its slightly lighter and the alpha is very slightly grey to suggest its transluscent )
Top right - is mouse over ( slightly darker, more opaque )
Bottom left - mouse down ( a shaded indent, more opaque and the frame bends in a way you wouldn't expect wood to bend )
Bottom Right - Disabled ( de-saturated )

The alpha crops them quite tightly because the buttons had to be an unusual shape.

There was not a template in the internet sense but heres a link to a file.
The .dds were exported with the Nvidia Texture Tools plugin, though you can probably use .tga instead. dds isn't normally used for UI.
