devoncop(Khazar 568-737AD) beat Indibil (Palmyran 259-273AD with Arab 312AD Allies)
Game score : 61-44
Tournament Scores :
devoncop : 60 + 17 = 77
countykgamer = 44
A wildly fluctuating game that the Kazars look to have lost by turn 12 as their right flank and most of the centre disintegrated. a turning pint was the freakish performance of a unit of Khazar archers which double dropped a unit of Palmyran Cataphracts when the Palmyrans tried to take out the remaining units in rough ground in the left centre. This seemed to give the right flank great heart which swept across and with just two turns remaining put the enemy to flight.
If ever there was an unlikely result this was it. Commiserations to my unlucky opponent.

alexhstandish (Anglo Irish) defeated Gort7078 (Anglo Norman) 63;42
A very hard fought battle. The Irish managed to shoot up the Norman lancers enough to then finish them with knights and foot. The dismounted knights were however as super tough as always, surviving multiple enemies and flank charges.
Thanks for a very good game Gort.

Ironclad Carthaginian (Hannibal in Italy) 281-217 BC defeated mcfcivo Graeco-Bactrian 259-130 BC and Saka 300 BC-50 AD allies 43-14
The Graeco-Bactrian cavalry soon established a superiority over their mounted opponents who managed to to hang on whilst the infantry action progressed. With mixed fortunes for the opposing elephants the Carthaginian Spanish and Gallic infantry with their greater numbers eventually overcame their opposition for a decisive victory. Good game, thanks.

alexmike1 Arab (Umayyad) 685-750AD beat Rob123 Indian Rajput 650-1049AD 48-18
The Indians advanced a short distance to a small ridgeline and held it strongly with their infantry. The whole line had a liberal sprinkling of elephants, which caused havoc initially amongst the Arab cavalry in particular. The elephants got carried away by their success, as they often do, and were eventually either sidelined or ganged-up on. This allowed the impact infantry and cavalry of the Arabs to get at the Indian infantry.
Fun game in which I was in serious trouble early on.

Solemnace Scots (Isles and Highlands) 1320-1493 AD defeats Indibil Polish 1386 - 1454 with Hungarian 1320 68-44
A long tiring game. The Scots successfully routed off the field most of the Polish and Hungarian infantry and dragged down the bulk of the knights only to have to spend many turns running after the rallied infantry and enemy cavalry trying to pin them down enough to force a result. Finally as the day was ending a flank charge forced an auto rout on the last hostile infantry, some light foot archers were chased off the field and some polish mounted crossbowmen fragmented the turn before were caught on their exhausted horses as they failed to run away to finally break and put an end to the fighting. Leaving the exhausted and badly depleted Scots the victors.

An absolute pig of a map with a large body of water down the Egyptian right, a deep stream through the middle and enclosures. The respective chariot fleets spent most of the match sniping across the stream, with the Babylonians having the better of it. In the centre and right though the Egyptian archery and superior foot got the better of their opponents. The game ended quite abruptly when a unit of impact foot completed 3 successive flank charge/routs - pretty lucky on my part!

Chris Townsend's Spanish 900 (w/Andulasian allies) defeats Solemnace's Arab (Bedouin) 41 to 14
This was a bit of a time warp battle, with a pre-conquista Arab (Bedouin) army facing a Spanish army from the beginning of the Reconquista.
The Arab's only brought lances when they crossed the Straits of Gibraltar, and they literally ran into a bunch of rough terrain, with a rough sided hill in the middle, and the sea protecting the Spanish left flank. The Spanish placed archers on the hill, a few spearmen at each end of their line, and irregulars in the mostly rough terrain in between.
Their right flank was open, and their light horse their was quickly overrun, apparently not realizing that the Bedouins had lances instead of light spears. The Spanish medium cavalry did come to the rescue, and the front stabilized, with a few Bedouin light horses getting through, but not early enough to threaten the rear of the Spanish infantry. On the Spanish left, one Bedouin cavalry did slip through a gap, but fortunately spent too long looting the Spanish camp to have a decisive impact on the battle.
Meanwhile, the archery fire (massed and skirmishers) devastated the middle of the lancer line, and the irregular infantry counter attacked as successive lancers fragmented, putting a hole in the Bedouin line big enough to send them back to their ships.
A good game, where the virtues and challenges of lancers were shown, especially in constrained terrain.

Chris Townsend's Pergamene 262 defeated devoncop's Samnite 355 and the Gallic allies 44 to 17.
Samnite's came down from their mountains and crossed the Aegean Sea, landing near Troy, looking for a hospital environment in which to make an impact. Unfortunately, they found the terrain very open, with the only hill being a small rise anchoring the Pergamene left flank.
Both armies concentrated their cavalry on the right, with the infantry skewed left. The Pergamene infantry was outnumbered, but well supported by skirmishers and artillery. The Samnite medium infantry entangled and surrounded the Pergamene cavalry in project "Neutralize Anelkatos", but, eventually suffered more casualties than they caused, partly due to repeated flanking charges by the Pergamene light horse. In the meantime, the Samnite right flank eventually broke through against the hill destroying the Thureophoroi, but leaving most of the skirmishers intact (albeit on low ammo) to harass efforts to get to the centre.
In the end, the Pergamene centre held and even counterattacked through a combination of wearing down the attackers with missile fire and the timely arrival of their victorious right flank.
A good game that looked very balanced for quite a while, until an accumulation of little things (like the rally of a Pergamene Xystophoroi) led to the decisive result.
