defeats
ulysisgrunt Roman 105--25 BC with Numidian

Very close battle on an open plain. The Roman infantry were deadly on the attack and resilient in defence. The Macedonian cavalry tipped the balance and the day was almost over when the Romans finally succumbed. An excellent match up - very well balanced.

Division C
Vakarr Bithynian defeated Chris Townsend Pergamene 9-43
The Bithynians weighted their right flank, where there was a hill on the Pergamene side of the table. The hill and the extra troops eventually resulted in the left wing Pergamene forces being wiped out, despite a breakthrough into the Bithynian rear by two Pergamne cavalry units.
Meanwhile, the superior warbands clashed with the Pergamene centre but they had to fight through clouds of Pergamne skirmishers to get there, so were somewhat depleted when they charged the main Pergamene line, and the results went both ways. On the Bithynian left flank, the Pergame cavalry won the cavalry engagements and the Bithynians had great trouble holding back the Pergamene horde. That flank would have been lost by the Bithynians if the game had gone another turn.
However, the Pergamene left flank losses and the loss of some of their units in the centre was enough to end the game.

Division D
SawyerK leading the Syro-Canaanite 1207-1100 BC army and Egyptian 1149 BC ally
defeated
Rob123 and his Hittite 1275-1180 BC army
by 41-4.
The Hittite strategy was fine, but when the forces closed, the Syro-Canaanite chariots and swordsmen had devastating effects on impact, and the game quickly went into the latter's favor.

Captainwaltersavage Macedonian 320-261
defeats
snooky51 Samnite 355-272 + Gallic 300-101
46:20
A fairly open battlefield divided by a stream provided enough interest to get both armies trying to outflank on their left side. The Macedonians had to spread their line to counter the advancing Samnites with their allied warbands. The battles on the flanks went well for the Macedonians allowing the Samnites to crash through the centre of the Macedonian defensive line. Their eagerness for battle was the downfall for the Samnites as their Gallic allies charges after their defeated enemies. Enough victories elsewhere and the stalwart defence by the commander in chief and his phalanx, when assailed form all sides, was enough to tip the balance.

defeats
lunecastle Lysimachid 320-281 BC and Seleucid 302
47:10
Hills on the left and centre and a wide open battlefield on the right made for some difficult decisions. I decided to push on my left and bulk up the attack over rough ground with some thorakitai and some phalanxes. hoping the phalanxes would not get zoned out on the plentiful rough ground. The Lysimachids brought a huge number of skirmishers and enough infantry to hold a standard attack. My overwhelming numbers even allowed some lancers to charge through his ranks and disrupt his defence. In the centre it was very even and might have gone either way. on the right I was seriously outnumbered and had to send over my elephant and a couple of thureophoroi to try and shore up my line against the enemy elephant and supporting cavalry. My much smaller number of cavalry had to do a lot of running away behind a convenient lake to just survive. The lysimachids surged through my centre pushing back my front line of inferior troops. Luckily my victorious lancers from the left flank were perfectly placed to flank them as were some other medium spears. On the right the elephants clashed and My Nellie had obviously been training hard and shattered the Lysimachid Elephants in short order. In the ensuing chaos the Lysimachid centre collapsed and it was game over.

Karvon Venetian 1440-1500 AD defeated ChrisTownsend Dailami 1056-1500AD 50-24.
The Dailami deployed their foot along the slopes of a large hill on our right with horse covering their flanks and in reserve.
We sent some of our light horse wide around each flank, which drew off some of his horse. One division of knights followed up this move on our left and destroyed or drove off his opposing horse. One division of knights tackled the center portion of the hill, making a few charges in an attempt to overrun his foot, to no real effect. They were supported by our light foot, which shredded up some of his defending foot. Two divisions tackled the left end of his line and broke through several foot and supporting archers. Part of these divisions also saw off his opposing horse. While we lost a few lights, they did distract and tie up a bit of his horse, and we did lose one of our knights which got flanked in pursuing on our left. The accumulated losses for the Dailami, however, led to their final collapse.

devoncop(Khazar 568-737AD) beat Indibil (Palmyran 259-273AD with Arab 312AD Allies)
Game score : 61-44
Tournament Scores :
devoncop : 60 + 17 = 77
Indibil = 44
A wildly fluctuating game that the Kazars look to have lost by turn 12 as their right flank and most of the centre disintegrated. a turning pint was the freakish performance of a unit of Khazar archers which double dropped a unit of Palmyran Cataphracts when the Palmyrans tried to take out the remaining units in rough ground in the left centre. This seemed to give the right flank great heart which swept across and with just two turns remaining put the enemy to flight.
If ever there was an unlikely result this was it. Commiserations to my unlucky opponent.
