I am playing the battle of Tinchebrai for the first time, as the Normans.
At the start, as usual, I am given the option to purchase additional units. I think I purchased four additonal mounted knight units and two spearmen units.
I am very perplexed because these units do not appear among my starting units on the battlefield. My purchases made no difference at all to the size of my army. For example, I have no spearmen despite purchasing two units of these.
Is this a bug? It occurred to my that they might arrive later as reinforcements, but I have played for several turns and there is still no sign of them. Also, I have played every battle in the similar game Pike and Shot and purchased units always appeared in the initial set-up.
Tinchebrai - missing units?

Have you tried it several times ?
I've just tried and bought units for this battle at various levels of SP difficulty (2, 3, 4). 5 attempts in a row. No issue 4 times. The 5th time, I had the feeling that it didn't work. But maybe I misclicked... Or a one-time mini bug ? No big deal in this case.

Re: Tinchebrai - missing units?
Thanks for the reply.
Having tried this again and looked closely at what is happening on the map during the set-up phase, I have figured out what the issue is.
The units I purchase do in fact appear as additional units, but in the case of the two "spearmen" units they are called "feudal levies" not spearmen (I could have worked this out if I had noticed that I get 13 "spearmen" units - i.e. feudal levies - automatically, but my eyesight is not so good at reading the small numbers on that display).
All the other units in the list are called the same thing as they are called on the map, so I suspect the name of those units was changed at some point from "spearmen" to "feudal levies", but this was not updated on the army list. Of course, it would be less confusing if the names of the unit types were consistent!

Re: Tinchebrai - missing units?
The units have fixed names in the game, but the editor allows the option to give them custom names for a particular scenario, to make the name better suit the scenario. The scenario designer has taken advantage of this option in this and many other scenarios.Jabod wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 8:49 pm The units I purchase do in fact appear as additional units, but in the case of the two "spearmen" units they are called "feudal levies" not spearmen (I could have worked this out if I had noticed that I get 13 "spearmen" units - i.e. feudal levies - automatically, but my eyesight is not so good at reading the small numbers on that display).
