Quantity defeated quality. I took lots of cheap camels and outnumbered Sarmatian lancers by about 50%

Chris Townsend's Paslmyran 258 w/ Arab 312 defeated EdmondDantes Umayyad Arab 685 41 to 9

This was essentially a battle that turned on luck. Bad luck was initially on the Palmyran side, as their cataphract fragmented on the first Umyyad lancer charge, and then quickly routed, taking the overall commander with them in the rout. This opened the door to the rout of a Palmyran irregular, again with leader, that had tried to contain another lancer on rough ground. The Palmyran's counterattacked on the other flank, and won the initial cavalry encounter, but their Roman infantry ran into a resilient Umyyad heavy spearmen, with a leader. Two turns later the Palmyran cataphract and irregular had rallied, with the cataphracts all the way up to disrupted and able to withstand another lancer charge. Meanwhile, the Umyyad heavy infantry finally succumed, with the leaders death causing additional routs from nearby fragmented units!

The game shows the potential for a few lucky or unlucky roles to influence the outcome of these little wars. So it was still a good game, well played all around.

Chris Townsend's Palmyrans 258 (with Arab allies) defeated Indibil's Byzantine 551-578 AD with Germanic Horse Tribes 260-492 AD allies 55 to 25.

The Palmyran's choose a mostly infantry line anchored by two built up areas, supported by a small cavalry force, and screened by archers. The Byzantine's choose to attack with their primarily cavalry force, supported by two infantry that matched the quality of the Palmyran's Romans. Some initial maneuvering was indecisive, with the the Byzantine cavalry's speed offset by Palmyran interior lines. The first clash lured some Palmyran infantry forward, and the veteran Byzantine lancers crashed through. Unfortunately, by the time they were ready to return to the fight, their infantry found themselves outnumbered, and the Palmyran cataphracts had made their own successful charge.

Routing units on both sides led to dramatic last turns. Good Game!

P.S. This is my last Little War (for this year). Thanks to Karvon for running with this idea!

jaerho (Welsh 600-1049 AD with Anglo-Saxon 600-870 AD allies) defeats rockmanbob123 (Sarmatian 25-375 AD with German Foot Tribe allies) 63-41

The Welsh army found a rough hill to form on that helped them survive the initial Sarmatian charge while the cavalry swung for a flanking maneuver. After a brutal fight, Welsh numbers proved decisive as they were able to surround and break the two warbands. Thanks for great battle.

I lost to Angusosborne by 50 to 24. That occurred so long ago that I cannot give any details.

I drew with EdmondDantes by 52 to 48, and he had the better score. With seven moves left, he had six heavy foot and a Veteran Dalaimi that had run over everything it faced. I had a Hastate, an Irregular Foot, and a lot of lights, and all of them were running as fast as they could.

Thanks for hosting this tournament! It is faced paced and a lot of fun.

I planted ty Nubian foot in some enclosures in the centre and engaged the Arab mounted troops as fast as possible while Dailami bore down on them. This worked. We decisively won the cavalry engagement in just enough time to get some flank attacks on the Dailami which otherwise sliced through our infantry like a knife through hot butter. Good game
I think this score has been missed - one of the few wins where the scoring system went in my favour!

principesromanes (Ghaznavid 962-1187 AD with Turkish 600-1036 AD allies) defeates rockmanbob123 (Samaritans 25-375 AD with Germanic Foot Tribes 105 BC – 259 AD) 47-19

The Samartians brought lancers supported by warbands. The Ghaznavids brought horse archers supported by elephants. The lancer and artillery support were probably unnecessary. One elephant smashed through a single lancer while the other smashed through a lancer and warband before getting stuck on the Germanic superior warband. I guess the rest of my army might have done something (like a few disrupts from the arrows and artillery), but I’m not sure anyone really noticed. This was an interesting battle in that most units were quickly locked down into melee, leaving me I think a single move (a light horse rear charge) to make one turn.

principesromanes (Ghaznavid 962-1187 AD with Turkish 600-1036 AD allies) defeats Karvon (Parthian 250 BC - 225 AD with Arab 312 BC – 299 AD allies)

After the Parthians withdrew from a very narrow and forested map bordered by a large river, the armies met on a marginally preferable field for a cavalry fight - there were only three sizable patches of rough on this (tiny) map, the forests kept themselves (mostly) to the corners, the march was far enough out of the way to be (almost) irrelevant and the deep stream running through the centre was technically better for a cavalry action than the large river where the armies first met.

Of course, to many of my opponents' surprise, the Ghaznavids are secretly an infantry army (although I doubt I can persuade angusosborne's Christian Nubians of that) so brought some nice Dailami foot and massed archers to control the rough. Supported of course by a unit of heavy artillery and some mounted horse archers.

For some reason, the Parthians weren't overly confident in their Arab allies and only brought a single unit of irregular foot to contest the rough. And they certainly should have brought more, since my Dailami foot disrupted charging into those irregulars! Fortunately, my Dailami wisely fell back after that and the next impact disrupted the irregulars, as it should be.

Meanwhile, the Parthian light horse was harassing the main Ghaznavid force, confident in its ability to fall back should my defensive arrow fire ever become too concentrated. However, the Ghaznavid bowmen proved adept at sniping retreating units that believed themselves safely behind the line, catching the Parthian C-in-C in an autobreak when he stepped in to steady a light horse that wasn't quite as safe as imagined.

With the skirmish going poorly, the Parthians withdrew to continue cautiously circling the Ghaznavid forces. In the dying hours of the battle, when it had all the appearances of heading for a draw, the Ghaznavids repeated their earlier success in snipping the Parthian C-in-C, surging forward to autobreak another Parthian light horse to push the score into a narrow Ghaznavid victory.

An interesting battle with lots of maneuvering, as it always is playing Karvon. Thanks for the game and organizing the tournament!
