Stronger mines!

Hi guys,

Who else thinks mines should be much stronger?
Right now any unit can just run through them when they are discovered.
It's really a pity because you are not forced at all to use engineers to clear them.

What I would change:

Attack power: increase a little bit, maybe 50%.
If it's too high, the ambush will be too strong.

Defense: 3 or 4 times as much.
It should take infantry a long time to run through them.

Shock value: increase from 10 to 50 (so that a unit that gets ambushed by a mine can then be attacked easily, or at least has to stop and recover for a turn, like a tank losing a track e.g.).

Price: can stay the same, or maybe be increased from 20 to 30. They are expensive enough as they are. Costing as much as infantry. And can't move or attack, so..

Recharge: increase from 3 turns to 6 turns or more.

Strength: mines should always be strength 10, regardless of the strength of the engineer that lays them.


I have been thinking many times to mod this, but then, who would download a mod just for mines.. I think this is sth that should really be part of a new update, because the game really needs it?

You can certainly mod them to be stronger, but I'd be careful, esp. in Single Player.

The AI does use engineers to demine. But question is if it has engineers around to deal with mines. Or what happens if players focus on taking out AI engs asap. In the worst case you could unbalance defensive maps signifcantly.

In MP it may be less serious if there are paired games, and human players overall may deal with stronger mines better. But even there it could shift the balance towards the defender.

I would only be interested in multiplayer.

Do you think this might get updated officially? Because I really don't think people will start a mod every time just for this small thing
