rafydedel ancient British 60 bc- 80 ad with Roman defeats Aetius39 Byzantine 551-578 42-11
Byzantine front line was bordered on its left by a steep and difficult hill and also had a large patch of difficult terrain in the middle. This terrain was really to the advantage of the Ancient British who could occupy it with their loose order warbands and penetrate in the Byzantine line.
This is my final game, thanks to the organizers and to my opponent for the pleasure of this tournament

Karvon Cimmerian 750-600 + Thracian 680-461 defeated carpenkm Antigonid 320 -301 + Greek 460-281 allies 45-20.
Our horse archers and lights swarmed around and gradually wore down the enemy, destroying most of their mounted and lights and enough of their medium foot to break the army.

hscic with Assyrian 704 - 682 BC defeated ggarynorman with Assyrian 745 - 705 BC 60 - 39.
The two armies faced each other with a river in between. The Assyrians 745 - 705 BC, however, were stationed on a hill. Both armies attempted to outflank the enemy on the left but only the Assyrians 704 - 682 BC succeeded. This led to a progressive wear and tear of the Assyrians 745 - 705 BC resulting in a narrow defeat.
ggarynorman TYFP. It was't an easy match at all.
As it is my last match...TY to the organizers....

Aetius (Byzantines) defeats karvon (Alans) 48-22
With little infantry backing them up, the Byzantines scattered most of the Alan horsemen, except for the left which fell into a bit of a trap and got hit a bit hard. Terrain helped too, but eventually the Byzantines hunted down enough Alans to rout them. They made it tough, though, GG!

Re: TDC VII Later Medieval - Results
We are down to the wire....please post any missing results and/or let me know if missing games will not be played.
tyronec appears to have taken the gold in Division A, but the top two players put together epic portfolios of wins. Hopefully that last missing game that could decide the gold will get completed
IMC has taken the gold in division B with an impressive 6-2 record.
Congratulations to all.
I will post the final results next week

Deeter (Carthage) defeats carpenkm (Antigonid) 52-27
The Antigonid phalanx squared off against the Carthaginian heavy foot (cowering on a hill) neither wanting to engage. Meanwhile both armies attacked with their right wings. The Antigonid phalanx developed gaps that were exploited as the Carthaginian right succeeded in the crushing its opponents. Fortunate rally/pursuit rolls did the rest. Good game!
Deeter
I lost my final game vs challenge1 62-52 but will let him report the details.

principesromanes (Armenian (Tigranes) 83-69 BC with Pontic 84-47 BC allies) defeats anderarcos11 (Gallic 100-50 BC with Spanish (Iberian) 300-10BC allies) 61-33
The Armenians showed up to fight the warbands with a line bristling with cataphracts supported by immitation legionaries and what would prove to be almost too many irregular foot. The Gallic warbands hung back to allow the allied Spanish Scutarii in the woods to spring an ambush. The Armenians decided to take advantage and send their light horse to wreck havoc on the Gallic cavalry. While this was successful, the time it took almost delayed the main battle long enough for the Gauls to hold out until sunset.
When the battle lines finally joined, the Gallic skirmishers proved a real annoyance – beating the Armenian lights and inflicting some casualties on the imitation legionaries. Or course, once the Gallic skirmishers tried to flee to safety behind their lines, the encircling Armenian light horse made quick work of them.
As the main battle lines clashed, the cataphracts quickly tore holes in the warbands – which was extremely fortunate, as the imitation legionaries did quite badly. As the battle line disintegrated, the cataphracts were better able to take advantage of the holes in the line. Nonetheless, it was not a good day for the Armenian infantry – either the imitation legionaries or the irregular foot who were desperately called up to try to find flanks or plug holes.
Thanks for an intriguing little game and thanks for finishing this match just under the wire.

Challenge1 Achaemenid Persian 545-481 defeated deeter Carthaginian (Hannibal in Italy) 216-203 62-52
The Carthaginians advanced in a protective block on one flank. The Persians had a cavalry screen in front of the Carthaginian column and maoeuvered the rest of the army so the battle line ran parallel to the Carthaginian advance, while using their remaining cavalry to out flank the column. This was only partially successful but the Persian bows caused havoc as they retreated in the face of the Carthaginian column that had turned to face the Persian battle line.
As the score shows, the battle became very attritional and could have gone either way toward the end.
Well played and thanks for a good game.

Challenge1 Achaemenid Persian 545-481 defeated Aetius39 Spartan 680-461 52-26
With one flank protected by a wood and a small patch of rough ground the other mostly open but with a small hill and some rough ground, the Persians were forced to try and use their cavalry to outflank the wall of iron and bronze that advanced toward them. The Spartans used their lights to good effect at first, soaking up the arrow storm but with their minimal cavalry dealt with the Persians were able to get round both flanks. Despite losing half the Sparabara in the centre, the Spartans were whittled down and their cavalry were able to be the deciding factor.
Thanks for a good game!

Morat Norman (923-1049) with French (888-1049) defeats anderarcos11 German 933-1049 AD: 43-7
Normans used hills on the right to anchor that flank and pushed on in the left and centre. Win ground out against stubborn German resistance.
Thanks to anderarcos for the game. And thanks to all my opponents and the organisers for this section. Huge fun as ever.
