Nosferatu (Mountain Indian+Indian) defeats rockmanbob123 (Bosphoran 84 + Sarmantian) with 64:39
A very difficult hill on the Indian left overlooked the battlefield and both sides rushed lights and mediums onto it, but it was just slightly closer to the Bosphoran positions, so the Indians were caught before they could climb all the way, dooming them, but they bought some time for the rest of the battle to unravel. The Bosphoran center advanced against the Indians who held back, while on the other side, the Bosphorans withdrew their cavalry from the flank to strengthen their center, leaving the entire Indian right flank with no option but to rush as quickly as possible across the battlefield. While this took time, this wing did manage to reach the center in time to decide the battle there and overwhelm the enemy, who broke. The battle was still in the balance until the very last two turns, thanks for the game.

hscic with Assyrian 704 - 682 BC defeated Bagatrix1805 with Lydian 687 - 551 BC 60 - 55.
It was a very tough battle. We beat each other to pieces fighting on the banks of a river. The match was undecided until the end. TY Bagatrix for the nice game.

Division B
principesromanes (Armenian (Tigranes) 83-69 BC with Pontic 84-47 BC allies) defeats GDod (Parthian 250 BC - 225 AD with Selecuid 166-125 BC allies) 50-25
The Parthians came ready with every medium foot they could find to wrest the large rough hill on this map from a horde of Armenian irregular foot. Unfortunately, the Armenians forgot their irregulars at home and brought everyone who could wield a bow. The Armenians quickly vacated the hills to take the battle to the open plain, hoping their more numerous light horse could prove superior. After significant manouvering, the Armenian light horse finally made contact with the Parthian mounted wing. Things did not go well for the Parthian horsemen, although they managed to run down a few Armenian light foot trying to help out.
Seeing the cavalry battle going badly, the Parthian and Seleucid foot tried to engage the Armenian foot, who had unfortunately positioned themselves with a smaller and more defensive hill to anchor the flank. The Armenians may have had the slightest upper hand before the battle devolved into a melee. With lots of medium and light foot, many units broke quickly. Unfortunately for the Parthians, the Armenians had a few cataphracts who brought some staying power. Even so, the squishy Armenian irregular foot and bowmen who made up the core of the centre looked like they were on the brink of collapse. Fortunately for the Armenians, a very stubborn disrupted unit of massed archers decided to withstand a rear charge from cavalry, allowing enough time for some Parthian and Seleucid militia thureophoroi to collapse before the Armenian irregular foot were enveloped.
Thanks for a great game – I definitely got lucky a few times to snag the win when I did – fragmented medium foot can’t have great odds of surviving a charge from light horse.

Div A
Morat Visigoths 419-621 with Byzantine (571-8) defeats frederic02 Avars 558-631 AD: 41-2
Hilly terrain made it hard for the Avars to deploy. They then had no luck against their Gothic/Byzantine foes.
Thanks to federic02 for the game. And thanks to all my opponents in this Division. It's been (as ever) lots of fun,
M.

Nijis (vijayanagara) defeats Bagatrix1805 (knights of St. John) 60-42.
Inspired no doubt by Murugan, the elephants were not their usual panicky selves, enduring cannon, flanking attacks and head-on clashes with halberdiers, pinning down the knights until they could be flanked.

Triarii German 933-1049 w Polish 966
defeats
random27 Andalusian 756 -1049 AD + spanish 718
Score 61-58
After a couple of German generals, proving both ineffectual and quickly accident prone, destabilised an otherwise fairly solid German left things were going the Iberian way. Only the grinding forward of German armoured spearmen eventually gave a victory by a very very narrow margin. Much more of a draw than any sort of (technical) win.
Great game.
