Div B

Morat (Normans/French) defeats alexhstandish Axumite 100-970 with Beja: 42-14

Wide open terrain suited the Norman heavy foot and horse. Axumites had no luck at all - with their impact foot and camelry getting into good positions but the die rolls favouring their foes.

Thanks to alexhstandish for the battle.

Div B

Morat (Normans/French) defeats Asterix_von_TWC Frankish 751-887 with Viking: 43-8

Both armies set up with flanking cavalry and infantry in the centre. The Normans managed to see off their foes on the left flank and just hold up the right flanking Frankish forces for long enough to finish the fight in the centre. The final scores in no way reflected the doughty fight that the Franks put up throughout.

Thanks to Asterix_von_TWC for the battle.

Div A

Karvon Alans 651 AD defeated Stones1985 Arab Conquest 638 -684 AD 67 - 35.

We divided our force into two wings on each extreme flank. The Arabs formed a more conventional line of spear with massed archers supporting in the rear and with horse covering their flanks. We aggressively swarmed each flank and hunted down the enemy horse, bows and their hand full of lights. The spears divided to counter and support their horse. We finished off the Arab supporting units and isolated and dispatched a few of the spear to finish them off, inevitably losing a number of our own in the process.

Update: This has been fixed. I had the unique experience of being able to play the turn again and still make some of the same mistakes!

A break down in order and neatness that I find deeply and personally disturbing.

Probably needed a couple of crossbow units to help the light foot archers hold off the Hun but I don't know that I really want to sacrifice anything for it, certainly everything I had got a workout.
To my opponent, a close run thing and I wish you well against that other lot. Salute!

Division 3 or Division C

Chris Townsend's Graeco-Bactrians defeated Bagatrix1805's Macedonians and allies 66 to 36.

On a battlefield narrowed by mountains, the Graeco-Bactrians placed their infantry line on a low hill in the centre, putting a small cavalry force on their left, and a larger cavalry force supported by elephants on their right. The Macedonians responded with a massive 10 phalanx, supported by a few each of cavalry, light and medium infantry.

The opening phase saw a lot of maneuvering, with the Graeco-Bactrian right wing attempting to outflank the phalanx, retreating their own smaller infantry force to another small hill, and demonstrating with their left wing cavalry and their skirmishers. The Macedonians phalanx did an excellent job of fanning out to keep the cavalry at bay, even catching a few skirmishers, at no cost to their own skirmisher force.

Real fighting eventually commenced, with the Macedonian cavalry eventually engaging my left wing cavalry, but at a disadvantage due to my light cavalry's missiles. On my right wing, some of the cavalry eventually made it through some gaps in the phalanx line, but all the elephants succumbed to attacks by phalanx. In the centre, the Macedonian phalanx made it to and onto my low hill, but was caught in the rear by the timely arrival of victorious cavalry from the left and right.

Victory was only determined on the second last turn.

Good game!
