War of the Spanish Succession campaign
Hi guys,
this is the thread of the “War of the Spanish Succession Campaign” (1701-1714), playable with the new Pike & Shot “Age of Reason” mod, that has been just released.
The idea would be to play 4 battles for each of the major theatres of war (Italy, Flanders, Spain and North America), with one general for each side acting in each of the mentioned places, with a total of eight gamers.
At the moment 5 generals are ready to enter into the battlefield:
Dilly
Gribol
Ironclad
Lysimachos
PeterthePainter
so we need 3 more to complete the roster.
Come on and join us!
The 4 battles should be played:
- in Italy (French vs Austrians) as:
o an attack scenario (large, wide, agricultural),
o a defend scenario (large, wide, hilly),
o and 2 open battles (the 1st large wide, agricultural and the 2nd large, wide, hilly),
- in Flanders (Bourbon vs Grand Alliance) as:
o an attack scenario (large, wide, hilly),
o a defend scenario (large, wide, wooded),
o and 2 open battles (the 1st large wide, agricultural and the 2nd large, wide, hilly),
- in Spain (Bourbon vs Grand Alliance) as:
o an attack scenario (large, wide, hilly),
o a defend scenario (large, wide, agricultural),
o and 2 open battles (the 1st large wide, agricultural and the 2nd large, wide, hilly),
- in North America (French Colonial vs British Colonial) as:
o an attack scenario (small, narrow, wooded),
o a defend scenario (small, narrow, hilly),
o and 2 open battles (the 1st medium, medium, hilly and the 2nd small, medium, wooded).
Every battle could end with:
- a draw, giving no points to each gamer,
- a marginal victory (from 1% to 9% positive differential in routed units) giving 1 theatre point to the winner,
- a tactical victory (from 10% to 25% positive differential) giving 2 theatre points to the winner,
- a strategic victory (from 26% positive differential) giving 3 theatre points to the winner.
At the conclusion of the 4 battles the theatre outcome would be counted as follows:
Indecisive = 0 or 1 points differential between the two players (no points for the overall outcome),
Marginal Victory = from 2 to 4 points differential (1 point for the overall outcome),
Tactical Victory = from 5 to 7 points differential (2 points for the overall outcome),
Strategic Victory = from 8 points differential (3 points for the overall outcome).
Then the results of each theatre would be added together to obtain the Overall Outcome of the campaign as follows:
Indecisive = 0 points differential between the two players,
Marginal Victory = from 1 to 2 points differential,
Tactical Victory = from 3 to 4 points differential,
Strategic Victory = from 5 points differential.

Well done Mark!
And an excellent painting too!
So now two other players would be needed to have a general for each theatre of war ...

Re: War of the Spanish Succession campaign
Hi guys, waiting the last two players to come, it's time to decide on which side of the barricades anyone would like to play.
I'd prefer to side with the Bourbons, in the Italian theatre of war, but if someone else favours this allocation I'm ready to change my plans.
Just express your own desires!

Re: War of the Spanish Succession campaign
Please count me in. I would prefer playing as the allies but am happy to take whatever is on offer.

Nice, we're ready to start now!
By now, one player opted for the Bourbons (me) and the other for the Grand Alliance (Doyley50)
Take your side Gentlemen!

Gentlemen, please, choose also the theatre of operations in which you'd prefer to be employed (Italy, Flanders, Spain or North America)!

Hi
I would prefer the Allies but I can act like a corpulent Bourbon if desired. I am not picky about the theatre of war, happy to go where I am assigned.

Re: War of the Spanish Succession campaign
Hi guys, it seems we’re ready to start!
This is the deployment of the forces in the various theatres of war:
Flanders
Dilly (Bourbon) vs Doyley 50 (Grand Alliance)
Italy
Lysimachos (Bourbon) vs Ironclad (Grand Alliance)
Spain
gribol (Bourbon) vs PeterThePainter (Grand Alliance)
North America
markleslie (Bourbon) vs CapnMud34 (Grand Alliance)
Each Bourbon player is going to launch the first two challenges to his opponent with this specific setting:
Dilly:
o an attack scenario (large, wide, hilly), Bourbon army vs Grand Alliance army
o an open battle scenario (large, wide, agricultural) Bourbon army vs Grand Alliance army
Lysimachos:
o an attack scenario (large, wide, agricultural), French army vs Austrian army
o an open battle scenario (large, wide, agricultural) French army vs Austrian army
gribol:
o an attack scenario (large, wide, hilly), Bourbon army vs Grand Alliance army
o an open battle scenario (large, wide, agricultural) Bourbon army vs Grand Alliance army
markleslie:
o an attack scenario (small, narrow, wooded), French Colonial army vs British Colonial army
o an open battle scenario (medium, medium, hilly) French Colonial army vs British Colonial army
Who launches the challenges must send a message to his opponent with the appropriate password.
Cry havoc and let slip the dog of war!

Re: War of the Spanish Succession campaign
Excuse me gentlemen, but I made a mistake having misread the post of Ironclad and thinking he wanted to fight in the North American theatre whereas he said just the opposite.
So, to amend the misunderstanding I think it's better to swap the place between him and CapnMud34, who has shown the willingness to play in every theatre of the war.
Consequently the two related challanges are modified as follows:
Italy
Lysimachos (Bourbon) vs Ironclad (Grand Alliance)
North America
markleslie (Bourbon) vs CapnMud34 (Grand Alliance)
The challanges will be sent to the opponent by me and markleslie
