Alexmike1 Sassanid 224-349AD plus Kushan beat Bagatrix1805 Roman 285 - 312 - 44-9

The Persian cataphracts and the main Roman battle line were held in a standoff until late game. The initial skirmishing started around a large wood on the Roman right. More troops were drawn in including, after a time, the Roman cavalry. The clouds of horse archers managed to prevail though and when the main battle lines eventually clashed the Sassanids got the better of the impact.

A hard battle for Rob given that there was little room for maneuver due to a swollen river, and the head on charge by the Franks unsettled his weaker troops. Excellent intervention from his elites prevented a quick overrun.... good battle and good effort in disadvantaged conditions

Captainwaltersavage Castillian/Leonese 1200 - 1319 with Granadine defeats alexmike1 Berber (Marinid) 1244-1319 with Aragonese 1275-1319 69: 38

In a hard fought Iberian flavoured battle on a pretty open plain, the Castillians eventually claimed a victory. The Berbers started very well and smashed up the enemy skirmishers and set about destroying my infantry. It was starting to look like a runaway victory for the Berbers but the Castillians managed to win enough battles to stay in the fight and finally the knights came to blows. Luck swung the other way and despite some late rallies and some plucky defending the combined knights and lights managed to wear down the dispersed Berbers - quite a few Castillians only survived by running for the distant hills. the score does not represent how close the battle was until the last couple of turns when all my attacks succeeded in in quick sequence.

With my opponent splitting his forces on the left and right hand side of the map I too followed suit, leading to an interesting match where the centre of the map was left abandoned by both armies.

The Cimmerians worked away at shooting up my cavalry while I boxed whatever horse archers I could into traps. A tough match that saw the full 24 turns used up (and both sides still aggressively fighting until the end). I got a good lead in the early game but my opponent began to catch up as long attrition amongst my cavalry from the cat and mouse games caused some to snap. By nightfall we ended with a very slim draw in my favour.

A God forsaken place for men to meet in battle but, by tacit agreement, a battle was fought here nonetheless.

The armies faced each other on either side of the deep stream skirmishing to little effect until a group of the burlier Balts, on our right flank, impetuously muscled their way across the stream. Now being isolated and outnumbered four to one there was nothing for it but to throw more Baltic fuel on the fire and, much to my surprise, they were wildly successful shattering their opponents. The remains of the battle devolved to holding all along the line while the Danish right flank dog piled Saracens one after another until the will to resist left them.
