I was happily playing solo Empires In Arms which was working nicely. Then I joined a group to play against and I had a problem with loading the game. I had put the starting sceanrio file I was sent by the host, into what is called the Commin folder but was advised the file was corrupt. I got then an unzipped file version and the game could not find the path to load. So I uninstalled the game and reinstalled and now I'm told there's a problem with my installation and should contact support. I tried reloading a few times, but I'm being told the same thing. Also I don't have an option to have the desktop play button.
What is going on, please?

normally, or sounds like a permissions issue, things to try
install on a administrator account and install as admin and right click and run as admin, that gets around any or most poor AV or firewall issues.
without more information it's hard to really say, so just guessing tbh
please email support at support@slitherine.com
they will want to know what issue your having and what version of the game your installing, what O/S your running, account level and maybe more stuff depending on the issues, which mostly can be gotten by running a simple command and uploading the results as mentioned below,

some more advice is offered above in there tech forum as well,
How to get a DxDiag File
How to get a DirectX Diagnostic file:
1. click on your "START" or "Windows" button
2. click "run" or
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK" or hit Enter
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice
We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments rather than pasted into the body of the post.

Re: Empires in Arms
I uninstalled everything and the program thinks I have a copy already. It's going from bad to worse.
Re: Empires in Arms
thats because you left something installed after the uninstall, a folder or file etc, that why it thinks it's already installed, every file and folder in the game installer and your doc folders with saves or settings need deleting before you can install again, and sometimes even then a cleaning program needs to be used to remove anything left over if done incorrectly or a uninstaller hasn't worked propperly, i use a free one to remove unassociated files and registry files etc CCleaner but there are tools, that for you to like and use, i'm not recommending any, i just find one and use it while it does the job, there's plenty of free ones out there, which do more if you pay for them, but most stuff isn't needed, so the free ones will do fine, good luck
