In faraway Rome, the last emperor has been deposed and replaced by a 'barbarian' king ruling in his own right. But this is all little known in the isolated and long-forgotten abandoned province of Britannia where Roman rule and presence is nothing more than a legend, the last Roman troops having left the island almost a century ago. In their stead, warbands of Angles, Saxons, and Jutes have arrived on British soil and are establishing kingdoms in the east, Irish settlers and raiders are making intrusions in the west, and the Picts as always are a constant threat in the north. But none of them is showing a united front among themselves, all being rivals and potential enemies to each other. Therefore, the British Isles are now truly a patchwork of petty kingdoms violently fighting each other for domination, whether Briton, Pictish, Irish, or Anglo-Saxon. And with brother against brother and father against son. The gods are also fighting: the Old Gods of Britain against those from Germanic lands and above all against the New God and His Son. Who will emerge victorious, ruling over Britain's ruins? Which kings? Which gods?

This mod takes off in early 477 AD and covers the British Isles, to some extent based on the Warlord Chronicles by Bernard Cornwell and on historical, speculative, and legendary sources. Above all, it's highly speculative.

Credits and thanks to the team of The Winter King (a mod for Crusader Kings II) for letting me use their flags for most of the shields and banners.

Download and instructions (latest version v0.5 as of October 6, 2024)
  1. Download the zipped file (ExCoB_v05.7z) from my Google Drive, available HERE.
  2. Unzip the downloaded file.
  3. Copy the unzipped folder (ExCoB_v05) and its files in the SCENARIOS folder of FoGK, i.e., under:
    \Documents\My Games\EmpiresKingdoms\SCENARIOS\
If you in addition want to be able to export the battles and play them in Field of Glory II:Medieval, you'll need to do as follows in that game
  1. Create a new folder named MODS under:
    \Documents\My Games\FieldOfGloryMedieval\
  2. Download the zipped file (GLOBAL_RUIN_OF_BRITAIN.7z) from my Google Drive, available HERE.
  3. Unzip the downloaded file.
  4. Copy the unzipped folder ( GLOBAL_RUIN_OF_BRITAIN) and its files in the MOD folder that you created in 1 above, i.e., under:
    \Documents\My Games\FieldOfGloryMedieval\MODS\
  5. Before you start a Kingdoms battle in Field of Glory II:Medieval, you need to select GLOBAL_RUIN_OF_BRITAIN through clicking on the button in the lower left corner of Field of Glory II:Medieval, named "Choose global mod set to use".
