Worth the money?

Post by mxd »

Hi Guys. I loved Commander Europe At War. How does this game compare and is it worth my 40 bucks? Thanks

Yes!!!... it is definitely worth it!. It's "Not a Perfect-Game"... but still worth it at any rate. It's "Too-Bad"... that Slitherine does'nt have a "Short-Sample-Demo-Game for the unitiated" to play and give it a go-a-round. Maybe they will smarten up some day???.

It has extremely high system requirements for a board game which severely limit the gameplay. The maps have to be kept fairly small as a result. I might suggest PzC 1 if you haven't already tried it.

Perfectly playable with a current low-end computer gamer

Not true. Game run quite well on my 8-years-old gaming laptop until I have to gave it up when Steam announced that they will no longer support Win7. The map can be made quite big, if you haven't checked that in the base game Fall Weiss scenario, not to mention some bigger ones in the DLCs. There certainly is a limit, but imo it's already beyond the requirement for most players to have fun with the game.

I did not notice the requirements. My rig is quite old at this point and despite this is manages with the game just fine. Panzer Corps 2 had just 3 moments in which it had some performance issues, all patched by now.

1. When it just came out, which is understandable.
2. At the beginning of AO moving to larger maps, but this was again addressed after some time.
3. Around AO1 944/1945 with more scripts in scenario, especially air forces had some stuttering issues. Once again, I have not seen this for quite some time.

Seem to be a lot of replies from people who play this game connected to power on thick "gaming laptops" with fans blaring. If that's what you like, fill your boots. PzC 1 can run for like 8 hours on an iPad without plugging in. Totally different league.

Regarding "Proline-Post":
quote: "Seem to be a lot of replies from people who play this game connected to power on thick "gaming laptops" with fans blaring".

My "LAPTOP" is about ~17mm thick... which includes the lid. I have a ROG ZEPHYRUS DUO 15SE
IMAGES: Image
Image

It is a "Portable-Gaming-Powerhouse"... and therefore!... it does generate "Heat". It does come with quite a capable built-in cooling system, however i chose to augment this cooling system with a separate fan-cooling-unit as insurance to make sure that it does stay cool!. Both system fans are quite "QUIET"... so i have "No-Problem" with Noise!.

It is extremely quick... and nothing!, but nothing! gets in its way!. I think it's "Terrific!!!".

*** I NEGLECTED to mention that this Laptop-Computer is "Solid-State... no moving parts... other than perhaps the Fans... and as well.. it has a "HDMI-PORT" ... so that you can plug your Computer into your "Big-Scree-T.V. as i have done!. I get to see and play the Game in a Giant-Size-Version... instead of a Mini-Me Version!.***

ADDITIONALLY:
***Do not use this Computer where temperatures are relatively high... the colder the environment, the better!.***
This Computer also has an additional plug-in-port for "EXTRA-MEMORY!!!"... so i added an additional 2-Terrabytes of Memory for this Computer. If you have a "Fan-Cooling-Unit" for it... and are trying to operate it or in at regular room temperatures... keep the Auxiliary-Fan on at all times. This will definitely help to extend the life of this Computer.

The "MODEL" ROG ZEPHYRUS DUO 15SE thati have discussed is an "Older-Model", so!... there may be improved units out there!.
