Offline Multiplayer in Field of Glory?

Post by Nuerginator »

Hello! I recently got into Field of Glory Empires and Kingdoms. I love both games, but the internet where I live is spotty at best. I would like to play hotseat or LAN multiplayer with a friend, but I cannot log into the Slitherine server with my poor internet, nor can we conduct a PBEM game over it. If we were able to do hotseat or LAN without connecting to the server, that would be amazing! Does anyone know how to do this? This would also be useful to know in the event of an eventual server shutdown.

The Steam page of FoG: Kingdoms says it has LAN multiplayer, but I can't figure out how to do this in game.

Saying it supports LAN MP is a mistake. The system isn't set up to allow us to support LAN unfortunately. Sorry!

Cheers

Ah, I understand. My main concern is, however, that if/when these servers shut down one day, these great games (both FoG:K and FoG:E) will no longer be playable in multiplayer (the most fun way, IMO). In my specific circumstance, I cannot regularly play the multiplayer at all due to my poor internet. In the interest of servicing all players and in ensuring that the game is preserved into the future, some form of offline multiplayer, perhaps hotseat, must be implemented to these games, especially considering FoG:K is marketed as supporting LAN multiplayer on its Steam page. Any developer commentary confirming this addition to these games would be wonderful.

We'll remove the mistaken LAN support note. We can look at allowing single-machine hotseat, although it would definitely be a considerable change. Offline MP simply won't work because the whole system is server-based.

I appreciate that isn't what you want to hear.

Cheers

I understand! I still strongly urge you to consider offline hotseat or manual PBEM for the purposes of game preservation and serverless multiplayer support for those with bad internet!

Also, my same point applies to the FoG II games!
