The Knights of St John had a big patch of rough going on their left with lots of crossbowmen and skirmishers which I was initially reluctant to attack, while they refused their right with horse archers and had a centre of men-at-arms, mounted and dismounted.

We had a lot of pre-engagement manoeuvre and when their medium foot ventured forward I attacked in with my impact foot and jinetes and broke through quickly. While on the other side we drove off the turcopoles and found some flanks to attack. Very even fight in the centre.

Fortunately (for me) random did not get his elephants from the same farm as Eric.
Very similar map and game as against Eric with German dismounted knights and Xb herding elephants while Indian cavalry headed round the flanks.
This time when the elephants had to face off against the knights the the elephants didn't stand forever but ran almost straight away. They also disrupted most of the supporting archers and MI who were then no match for the released knights who dealt more damage before Indian cavalry could arrive.

Two similar fights and but two very very different sets of elephants.

Division 3

Chris Townsend's Egyptians 945 defeat sunnyboy's Assyrians 704 57 to 32.

On a narrow battle fields constrained by mountains and a lake, the Egyptians opted for maximum Lybian swordsmen, with support from Egyptian guards, archers and massed archers. A small unit of light chariots was held in reserve, and another small force of early cavalry was sent on a long flank march. After an inconclusive clash of skirmishers and initial archery fire (hampered by the flat terrain), the melee was joined when some Lybian swordsmen got enthusiastic in pursuit of the light troops. The chaotic front line provided opportunities for the Assyrians to insert their cavalry successfully into the battle, including using interior lines to switch their reserve from defending against the flanking attack. This did result in the Egyptian right flank being substantially destroyed, but some of the Egyptian cavalry flankers were able to slip by the Assyrian replacement light troop screen. As the last light chariot reserve was through into this chaos, the battle was probably decided on the other flank, when the Lybian swordsmen were able to overwhelm the Assyran heavy chariots, with the help of supporting archery from a low hill.

the massive numidian army attempted a total envelopment of Pyrrhus, but the samnite allies shattered one flanking move before it really got started, and the phyrric phalynx crushed the inferior spearmen attempting to hold the center befor the other flanking move could fully develop.
