Assault, battle and movement

Does battles cost movement points or delay in movement?

My understanding is that battles do not cost movement...however fighting a battle can impact movement, especially if the battle is lost. Why did something happen?

No it costs nothing. If you see an oddity in arrivals it's probably a river crossing, it's not very obvious as of yet if a move includes one.
If you are defeated your movement is cancelled also.

Chop, it was for planning a move, if we assaulted and it cost movement we couldn't catch the enemy in the next region.
