The Thunder of Hooves

Post by awesum4 »

I am starting a new campaign based on Cavalry and Light horse armies of Eastern Europe, Eurasia and North Africa.

It will be fought over 6 rounds, starting in 1500 and ending in 1700.

Players choose to be one of 7 countries, using the army of their country of the year of the battle.

The countries are Poland, Ottoman Turkey, Georgia, Zaphorisian Cossacks, Uzbek Khanate, Morrocco or Algeria. There will be either one or two players for each country, if 2 they will fight a civil war to determine the true ruler.

A player who is defeated becomes the vassal of the victor, and they both then fight to expand their empire.

There is a maximum of 14 players (2 per country) Countries will be allocated in the order I receive applications, so please either post here or message me with you preferred armies...from 1 to 4.

I have emailed the people who played in my last 2 campaigns so they have prior notice, but the campaign is open to anyone.

Interested, and my choice of armies would be:
Ottoman, Poles, Gerogians, Cossacks.

However these armies look the best and on an open map I can't see some of the others having much of a chance. Also playing 6 battles with much the same horse archers every time could be repedative.
How about instead changing the armies between players each round ?

I have favourite armies from among these, but they have all been beaten by armies that I considered had no chance. I struggle to use the Morrocan armies and have been absolutely slaughtered by them.

Some of the armies change very little over the 200 years, others change quite a bit. You will be playing 6 different people and its very unlikely you will play the against the same army twice.

The first battles which will be civil wars should produce some epic battles. All these armies provide lots of drama when playing each other.

So the request a change of armies between rounds is denied.

Count me in, I'll play as whoever. My guess without having seriously played most of these is that Poland and Georgia will murder everyone.

We have 9 players signed up, need 1 more to start, or someone to play two games.

I've decided to not use the North African armies. We have 2 Poles, so they are no longer available. Waiting for one player to decide his army and then we can start.

The first round battles are all civil wars to establish who is the true ruler of each country.

The first player named sets up the battle. Large open battles in agricultural terrain, both using the army for their country in the year 1500. Make the passwword 1500

Polish Doyley50 plays GDodd

Ottomans Snugglebunnies playes TyroneC

Georgia KiwiWarlord plays Dilly

Uzbek Khanate PeterthePainter plays SMJohnso77

Zaporizhian Cossacks awesum4 plays Gribol

All battles are using armies from Extra Nations version 3.

Some of the armies don't exist in 1500, its the version that is before 1540.

Doyley's Poles fielded 11343 men to GDod's 13544. Both were evenly matched but Doyley's poles were quickly defeated 45/15 by my more eager Poles.

I was able to shoot quickly and more effectively with guns and infantry interlaced with cavalry before the lancers finished off most of the enemy cavalry on the left and center. Meanwhile my refused right retired but found the going tough due to the disparity in numbers on this wing. Although some units broke, units from the second line anticipated this and covered these inevitable routs.

Thanks for the game Alan. You can be comforted in the fact that a Pole won  With our internal civil war over it's now time to expand our Commonwealth!

Gribol has been elected as Hetman of all the Cossacks after he beat me by 51% to 26%.

He controlled the forest which was the only real feature on the battlefield, my massed arquebus advanced into a wall of lead and the number of broken units grew and grew.

Well played Sir.....now we march to victory over the bloody horse-riders.

Elected, now that is an idea. I selected an army of light horse whilst my opponent selected an army of elite cavalry so I could have won an election handsomely (on a one horse one vote basis) but we had a battle instead. As both sides choose yellow as our faction colour the battle was somewhat confusing. Eventually superior numbers beat superior quality but I was rather surprised that my hoard of average quality light horse were only advantaged by 300 -400 men. For much of the battle it was very close as pursuers chased after routed troops only to be rear charged by fresh troops but in the last couple of turns I pulled ahead to leave the final score 40 - 65.

KiwiWarlord becomes King of Georgia.

Dilly of Georgia 60%, KiwiWarlord of Georgia 37%

We both became befuddled and blinded by all the Red Flags so some errors were made here and there.
We are both glad that nasty civil war is over.

The Ottoman game is not going to finish any time soon, just in case you wanted to start the next round in the meantime.
