Fleets disappearing when moving

I've currently mustered a respectable size fleet of about 20 ships, including carriers to attack a planet of the cat race. A few seconds after I move it though though I get a notification of massive plutonium stockpile losses, and then I notice my attack fleet is reduced to just one ship. I use the automated fleet design feature so I presume that when the fleet just disappeared the game started to immediately rebuild the fleet template, and needed huge amounts of plutonium.

The fleet disappeared just a few seconds after moving out of the star system, before any battle is resolved. As an experiment I moved another big fleet towards the enemy star system and they got through. They got destroyed on the battle screen but at least they made it there without totally disappearing. The fleet I wanted to move is virtually all gone , except for one ship. I even checked under the Economics tab for my "Task Force 4" (as I named it) but it says there is only one ship in it.

I'm confused as to why one fleet disappeared while moving another managed to reach it's destination. I'll experiment a bit more with different settings and procedures but I hope someone can help. I can attach a game save file. And I'm using patch 1.06g with WIndows 10

I had some success with moving the fleet. I deleted a "Rally point" for the task force at the star it was based at. I'd made an Earth type planet into an industrial powerhouse and created a rally point for newly formed fleets to assemble at For whatever reason I suppose that confused the game code and it caused a bug that deleted the fleet as it was moving. Getting rid of the rally point seems to have fixed it.
