For Norway in April 1940, reality was significantly different from what was on paper.
The whole country was divided into 6 districts, which were called "
divisions".
The headquarters of the 1st district was located in the city of Halden, the 2nd - Oslo, the 3rd - Kristiansan, the 4th - Bergen, the 5th - Trondheim and the 6th - Harstad.
Brigades were formed in all 6 district "divisions".
Their composition at the beginning of the Wehrmacht invasion was as follows.
There was a guards battalion (Hans Majestet Kongens Garde) in Oslo.
The 1st and 2nd divisions formed Armeavdelning consisting of:
• 1st brigade: 1st and 2nd battalions of the 2nd and 3rd infantry regiments, 1st scooter company, division of the 1st artillery regiment ( 8 120 mm howitzers and 8 75 mm guns);
• 2nd brigade: 1st and 2nd battalions of the 4th and 6th infantry, 1st battalion of the 5th regiment, 2nd scooter company, battalion of the 2nd artillery regiment;
• 2nd Dragoon Regiment (5 squadrons);
• Separate artillery division - 8 howitzers 12 cm felthaubits/m32;
• Separate artillery motorized division - 12 guns 10.5 cm mobil posisjonskanon m/04;
• Engineer Regiment.
Also, 2 landwehr battalions were formed - the 5th and 6th regiments, and 2 landwehr batteries of 65 mm guns.
The 3rd Division formed the 3rd Brigade, consisting of 2 battalions of the 7th and 8th Infantry Regiments, 1st Mountain Artillery Division (1st and 3rd Mountain Batteries).
The 4th Division formed the 4th Brigade, consisting of 2 battalions of the 9th, a battalion of the 10th, a battalion of the 6th regiment. The brigade includes the 2nd mountain artillery division (4th, 5th and 6th batteries), Landwehr battery - 5 65-mm cannons.
The 5th Division formed the 5th Brigade, consisting of the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 11th Regiment, 5th Engineer Battalion. The 3rd Dragoon Regiment was also formed - 5 squadrons.
The 6th Division formed the 6th Brigade consisting of the 1st and 2nd battalions of the 16th, 1st battalions of the 12th and 13th, 2 battalions of the 14th and 15th regiments, 3rd 1st mountain artillery division (7th and 8th mountain, 9th and 10th motorized batteries), 6th engineer battalion.
The separate Alta bataljon battalion, formed at the end of 1939 on the Finnish border during the Soviet-Finnish War, the separate Varanger battalion and the Landwehr battalion of the 14th regiment were also re-mobilized. There was also an improvised armored train (Pansertogavdelingen) with a 75-mm cannon. In May, the 7th Brigade was formed, but it included units from the 6th Brigade.
The only tank of the Norwegian army (!), the Swedish Landsverk L-120, was part of the 1st Dragoon Regiment, but it was never taken out of the hangar, where it was captured by the Germans.
In total there are 2 dozen weak battalions, not counting the Landwehr. With very weak artillery support. We can say that there was a conditional division in the southern part of the country, and another division was recruited in the northern part of the country.
So it was not 6 "divisions" of the Norwegian army that met the Wehrmacht invasion, but only about on stuff - 2.
