Quality of exported battles

Post by JonJonJon »

I haven't got Kingdoms yet but played a bunch of Empires. One feature that didn't cut it for me in Empires was exporting battles to FoG. I love Empires, I love FoG...but together not so much.

My main gripe on that is FoG is a battle simulator built for roughly equal (in terms of quality and quantity) armies. However, exported Empires battles were rarely this. Without the FoG point parity system, the exported Empires battles were mostly a waste of time with one side being vastly superior in terms of number or quality - but played out on maps that don't aid one side or another. Or at least this certainly was the case when Empires first came out - in recent playthroughs I don't bother exporting. But, obviously, still have great fun playing it without making use of the feature.

Does Kingdoms address this in any way? Or is it just a case of only exporting the battles that are close-ish in terms of unit composition? Bear in mind this may have been addressed in Empires at some point in the last few years but I haven't tried to export since release.

Or to phrase it another way: is there (or will there be) an option to respect the frontage system in regards to export? For example in a region/terrain with a frontage of 6, say only 6 frontline units and 6 skirmishers from each side are exported to the FoG battle.

The battlefields in FOG2M are not too constrained on purpose, as it would not make for interesting battles. For example, trudging with difficulty through thick forests with many impassable obstacles wouldn't be engaging. This approach is taken by RBS for the export, and I agree with him. However, you can try to convince him in the FOGM forum
