Re: how do you disband units?
think I found the problem. on my units it says close-close instead of close-disband. if you click the 2nd close it goes to the next unit. must be a download upgrade flaw? where do I go to install another of the latest download/update to see if that will fix it?

My screenshot was taken during the deployment phase. I very rarely use the function disband.

Re: how do you disband units?
I think I understand your problem.
You developed a core in a preceding DLC, correct? You then imported that core into the present DLC. The units in that core only become "active" after you buy them in the present DLC at which point you can then disband them. If you haven't bought them yet you can't sell/disband them.
Importing a core has IIUC only two effects: a) specialization bonuses; and b) units that you can buy that have (hopefully) more experience than "standard" purchases. It is not a bank for Resource Points between DLCs.
On another note, only units actually deployed on the map take up "slots" or Command Points (if I understood your question above).
