Questions from a new player
I'm trying to figure out how to base aircraft at a new airbase knowing that it takes a turn to do so. I clicked on the airfield symbol but didn't see any of my aircraft rebase there in following turns. It is a mobile airbase that I have been moving up.
Secondly I am playing the Voronezh scenario as the Russians to "learn" the game. Last turn 2 enemy aircraft crashed/destroyed even though I did not fire at them. The weather was snow. If aircraft are in the air and snow hits can they return to base. If not, is this why those aircraft were destroyed?

after clicking on the air field symbol u need to click on another airfield, they are underlayed in yellow.canuckgamer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 5:45 am I'm trying to figure out how to base aircraft at a new airbase knowing that it takes a turn to do so. a mobile airfield needs to be deployed by switching it from dozer to airfield.
if u take an enemy airfield, all planes asigned to that airfield will rebase to another enemy airfield. if the enemy has no more airfields or the weather is rain or snow the planes will crash instead.canuckgamer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 5:45 am Secondly I am playing the Voronezh scenario as the Russians to "learn" the game. Thanks for the reply Grondel.
Re: Questions from a new player
As some players have noticed, capturing that last enemy airfield causes the entire enemy air force to explode. I wonder where the inspiration for that idea came from?

Also, as a neat trick not many people know about, if you hold shift while clicking the re-base button, it will rebase ALL aircraft from the current airfield to the new airfield. Provided the aircraft have their movement available, and the new airfield has space to accommodate them (7 planes on a normal airfield/mobile airfield).
It's neat to see your aircraft fly in a formation as they all rebase from one airfield to another!

Mobile airfield can hold 5, not 7 planes.Kerensky wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 12:03 am As some players have noticed, capturing that last enemy airfield causes the entire enemy air force to explode. I wonder where the inspiration for that idea came from?![]()

Re: Questions from a new player
That depends if vanilla or our mods. latest update has big airfields with 7 and small airfields with 5. same rules concerning jets/strategics. sadly the 2 turn building time for the big ones only works when the lua of that scenario has been adjusted, so double switching them is necessary atm until all scenarios have been changed.

Wait, so there is an option like this?Kerensky wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 12:03 am Also, as a neat trick not many people know about, if you hold shift while clicking the re-base button, it will rebase ALL aircraft from the current airfield to the new airfield. Here I was, rebasing my planes one by one over the course of all these runs. Better to learn this now than never I guess!
Re: Questions from a new player
Try it! Not only does it make managing aircraft much less of a headache, it looks very cool to see them all move in unison/formation.
I used the mass rebase option a TON during the Escape to New York scenario, because it's a HUGE map you have to constantly reposition your aircraft around on.
What other tricks are there...
Did you know two units adjacent to each other can directly swap places, if they have their movement available? Select a unit, hold shift and click the other unit. The two units will swap hexes with each other. It's nice for prolonged artillery bombardment sieges, where hill real estate is limited, and you can have two guns use the same hill extra gun range bonus per turn.
I guess that's another obscure tip. Ranged guns like artillery and Landkreuzers and air defense get extra +1 range for being on a hill/mountain hex.
Re: Questions from a new player
Wow what a great hint! I'm on my second replay of this game. My question is this, PC1 had the cheat for " all eqp" which would show all the equipment, so is there a code to get all the equipment in PC2?

Re: Questions from a new player
Why does this work only with the left side shift key?
Re: Questions from a new player
I used this a lot in SCW times where the damage is low and also for Retrograde and Bertorelli's run due to the tighter nature of the unit formations. That's such a convenient feature that once I discovered it initially in the very first campaign, I do not image the game without it.Kerensky wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 10:07 pm Did you know two units adjacent to each other can directly swap places, if they have their movement available? Great on heavy AA as it usually means it's out of sight of the enemy bombers, so a poor man's version of Camouflage trait. Also, with Emma Habermann on the 21 cm Mrs 18 it's the ultimate Counter Battery for the entire frontline.
